Islamic Events – What’s The Point?

Salaam

Been a while since I started a topic due to work load (and the fact that nobody replies to my posts anyway!)
But I’ve been thinking about this for a while.

Islam is about DOING. The word Islam is an action and a Muslim is one who DOES ISLAM. What I see often is Islamic events with hundreds and sometimes thousands of attendees. The events are great no doubt and serious matters are discussed however what’s the point in attending several of these a year when you’re not going to make serious changes to your life?

Is it to feel better? Why not just get on with it? Go and implement simple yet powerful actions that Islam teaches like:

- being good to people (ie to your partners, siblings, parents, strangers both Muslim and Non-Muslin)
- Smiling at people
- giving salaam
- forbidding the bad and encouraging goodness
- Earning a halal living – ie through being honest and trustworthy

Muslims at this moment in time can certainly talk the talk (which is arguable) but don’t walk the walk.
So, once again, what’s the point?

JUST GET ON WITH IT GUYS!

Say a-thousand people attend an Islamic event, 999 don't learn anything(nor change) whereas 1 person is guided and changes his ways. I personally think that's worth the effort. Simple events, simple messages will cause people to change and take action.

Sitting in front of a TV screen, whether that be on the net or TV, reading from a book one can learn so much, but one needs to be at the feet of a scholar, a sheikh to feel the blessing and presence and that one encounters at an event which can draw that person towards that Sheikh or tareeqa into the light.

Take a look at mainstream concerts which are planned on a huge scale pulling in the crowd, When one is physically present under the lights and the music it's so much real than watching the pop star on HD.

These events are a dawah on a huge scale, where one can meet different teachers, scholars, listen to a varied of lectures network with different charities and organisations, also people can sell Islamic items and reach a bigger audience and thus their business will gain massive publicity.

There are so many factors to this than just one sees on the surface, together we are stronger, networking, helping the other.

The huge part is ones intention when they attend, no doubt many youth may go to check out the ladies and vice versa, but I don't see why such amazing events be judged on he basis of girls who want to go on a day trip, or guys who wanna get a few numbers, look at the bigger picture.

Seriously Bro, you should attend these events with an open mind, take in the atmosphere, take the good, leave the bad. I'm sure you'll understand where I am coming from.

Maybe 1000 years ago. This is no 'sitting at the feet of scholars for blessings' era. What blessings? if there were blessings at the feet of these ppl they would not be sitting pretty in England or America under the pretense of 'dawah' whilst the billion+ on the otherside are in desperate need of education and most living below the poverty line. Think about that.

I'd also be wary of that so called 'light' judging by all the contradictory crap I hear from different so called Sheikhs. Don't get me wrong, there are good sheikhs out there just expect some knowledge/perspective from them....don't expect anything more.
