ADOPT A POLITICAL ORPHAN
Imran Khan’s political significance level was never as high as during the last ISI chief’s tenure. Imran Khan in his 20 years long political carrier could never make any waves in the political scene except occasional gathering of his ex-fans of his cricketing days. However, he always had attraction as a show-biz personality.
Our agencies that are always maneuvering for political space for the selected politicians perhaps saw some potential in this ex-hero of cricket. His earlier contacts with General Zia-ul-Haque, who supported him during the players revolt against his captaincy and the recent liaison with infamous General Musharaf may have helped in the agencies decision to revive his political carrier of Imran Khan as they seemed to be disenchanted with Zardari whom they are understood to have helped in take over of PPP after Benazir Bhutto’s sad demise. They also saw new dangers for their political hegemony in Mian Nawaz Sharif’s anti-establishment and anti-agency stand. It was really a brilliant strategy to help PTI arrange a huge meeting , and creation of euphoria at a mass scale on the electronic media. It subdued all political activity even that of Mian Shahbaz Sharif’s who was busy in anti-Zardari compaign. It was an ” entrée grand “ of a pseudo Napoleon Bonaparte. Two months, immediately after the Lahore meeting, it was Imran Khan all over dominating the political scene.
And then one of the greatest truths; Man plans, the best he can, using all his skills, using all his mental, physical powers rightly or wrongly, ethically or unethically but all of it is foiled because God also plans and his plans are superior. It was Memo Gate or the political clout of Mian Nawaz Sharif who had felt and objected to the meddling of agencies in politics but the result was the exit of political mentor and patron of our new rising star. And our pseudo Napoleon Bonaparte became an orphan.
Before vaudeville could become a drama and drama metamorphosed into real life, the game plan changed. Now the rising star did not find media overwhelmingly telecasting their political concerts. The TV debates turned realistic and the meetings grew insignificant. New entrants into the party ceased. The new entrants into the party who came with high hopes and tall promises grew despondent and a sense of insecurity and dissatisfaction is prevailing among them as fulfillment of promises is becoming more and more difficult. Factions around each significant party personality emerged and our pseudo Napoleon Bonaparte stands facing realities of life. His party is now a pariah to the media who is ignoring his insignificant meetings and his party minions are bewildered at changed circumstances.
Where his abusive tongue has annoyed some of the well known and respectable politicians of his party, his lack of confidence in electoral system made him boycott the by-elections resulting in internal feuds and some of the party stalwarts saw in this policy of non-participation loss of their seats and control over their constituencies. He immediately needs a guardian and a patron who should not only pave his way but also guide and control his arrogance which has annoyed many in his party. Will the establishment or a military General adopt this political orphan who is left bewildered half way on the road to nowhere?

I remember during Imran Khan's peak couple of months at the end and beginning of this year, I said to alot of people hes just an establishment agent playing puppet to a wider game against more slicker and street smart politicians.
The Sharifs and Zardaris and Choudarys may be corrupt politicians but they have massive, fiercly loyal support, something Imran could only ever wish for.
His rise from absoloutely nowhere to the dream politican Pakistan has been waiting for in the space of a few months was amazing. He turned from a nobody to this person that was percieved as not only winning elections but annialating his opposition. There had to be bigger, more powerful hands behind this.

There is a scene in the film 'The American President' when an advisor tells the president, that the people want leadership! In the absence of genuine leadership, they'll listen to anyone who steps up to the microphone. They're so thirsty for it they'll crawl through the desert to a mirage and when they discover there is no water, they will drink the sand.
