I don't have a reference, but have read that, if an intention for a bad deed is made but the act is not committed, then it won't be written down. And an intention for a good deed would earn a sawab. And if the good deed is committed, then you earn 2 sawabs... one for the intention and the other for doing it.

Allah and Rasool SAW know best!

I think they only write what we do ,what we think they dont know because if they do that means they can read our mind and brain , heart etc and that is count sort of ilam e gaib and they dont have that.

That's a great point! And a very good explanation.

hmmm Madani Baji, good, but what about the zikr we do in our heart, Zikr khafi? And we get 1 sawab everytime we do NIYAt to do something good but we dont get Gunah for Niyat to do something bad, who counts these kind of SAWAB? :) And what about we do dua in our heart so only ALLAH can hear our inside voices, and we know we get sawab for doing dua, so who counts this? :)

Do you think Allah needs Angels to count for him? They represent a system of fairness by Allah to us the creation. He is fulfilling his role as a Just creator whilst using a structure which will mean every one of us is individually recorded giving us a sense of caution and importance.

Angels do not judge us just count our spoken words and Allah does not require their testimony to do with us what he pleases. Going about with two Angels by our side is a constant reminder to us so we are careful not to do bad; in reality it is not to do with God's inability to record our deeds and intentions.

Whenever I do bad things which is very often, I always think God is seeing it and hearing it, for me the Angels do not exist.

I remember reading a verse from the Quran that says Allah forgives the evil whispers of the soul (not exact quote). I can't find the exact verse.

The only job of the Kiraman Katibin (honourable recorders) is to write down and record every action, thought, or feeling a person has each day. One angel figuratively sits on the right shoulder and records all good deeds, while another sits on the left shoulder and records all bad deeds.
