salam
i gave come across this hadith that purports that the prophet had no knowledge of what his community did after this demise.
How does this fit with our aqeeda:
Volume 8, Book 76, Number 584:
Narrated Anas: The Prophet said, "Some of my companions will come to me at my Lake
Fount (al-Hawd), and after I recognize them, they will then be taken away from me,
whereupon I will say, 'My companions!' Then it will be said,
'You do not know what they innovated (new things) in the religion after you."
thanks

salam well with out going into to much details. certain people of different aqaid use this to prove that prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam didn't have the knowledge of the unseen(maz'allah. the simple answer here is that this incident will happen on the day of qiyama or after and how do we know that this incident will take place. prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam TOLD US SO. so how can you say that he sallallahu alihi wasallam dosent know. i have heard from 1 alim that there is more to this hadith that people relate. the rest of the hadith will be that the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam will know who they are and what they did in the duniya. if any one can correct me then plz do so.

He (saaw) had more knowledge than all of us ... after that ... what difference does it make how much more ... or what is the advantage of putting a number on it ?

I think you'll find that no one from any sect claims that the prophet(saw) has no knowledge of the unseen. it is only the amount of knowledge that is the issue of contention between different sects. The brelwis say its limitless while the deos say its limited to what Allah(swt) has chosen to reveal.

brother AQ,
the important question here is not about ilm al-ghayb rather the hadith is saying that some companions whom the Prophet(s) recognises were taken to hell-fire on the basis that they had become innovators meaning bidatis. Now, ask those wahabis who cite this hadith...do you believe that some sahaba were innovators???
the question of ilm al-ghayb is settled from the Qur'an and mutawatir sunnah. for example, the mutawatir hadith which fortels the shahadat of hazrat Ammar Ibn Yasir® informs that the Noble Prophet(s) foretold the specific details of what would happen in future to a specific person and also what would happen to him in herefater. this hadith is sufficient to establish the ilm al-ghayb idea. the wahbi deniers would struggle to say that some sahaba were innovators. if not then what is the function of such hadith?

Sahih Bukhari
4.795:
Narrated `Uqba bin `Amr(May Allah( subhana watala) be pleased with him): The Prophet(peace be upon him) once came out and offered
the funeral prayer for the martyrs of Uhud, and proceeded to the pulpit and said, "I shall be your predecessor and a
witness on you, and I am really looking at my sacred Fount now, and no doubt, I have been given the keys of the treasures
of the world. By Allah, I am not afraid that you will worship others along with Allah, but I am afraid that you will envy
and fight one another for worldly fortunes."
Sahih Muslim
Bk 30, Number 5829:
Abu Musa(May Allah( Subhana Watala) be pleased with him) reported that Allah's Apostle ( peace be upon him)
was asked such things which he disapproved and when they persisted on asking him he felt enraged and then said to the
people: Ask me what you wish to ask. Thereupon a person said: Who is my father? He said: Your father is Hudhafa. Then
another person stood up and said: Allah's Messenger(peace be upon him), who is my father? He said: Your father is Salim, the freed slave of
Shaiba. When 'Umar(May Allah( Subhana Watala) be pleased with him) saw the signs of anger upon the face of Allah's Apostle (peace be upon him), he said: Allah's Messenger(peace be upon him), we ask repentance from Allah( Subhana Watala).
And in the hadith transmitted on the authority of Abu Kuraib(May Allah be pleased with him) (the words are):
"Allah's Messenger(peace be upon him), who is my father? He said: Your father is Salim, the freed slave of Shaiba."
Sahih Bukhari
9.211:
Narrated Anas:
The people started asking the Prophet(peace be upon him) too many questions importunately. So one day he ascended the pulpit and said, "You will not ask me any question but I will explain it to you." I looked right and left, and behold, every man was covering his head with his garment and weeping. Then got up a man who, whenever quarreling with somebody, used to be accused of not being the son of his father. He said, "O Allah's Apostle(peace be upon him)! Who is my father?" The Prophet(peace be upon him) replied, "Your father is Hudhaifa." Then `Umar got up and said, "We accept Allah as our Lord, Islam as our religion and Muhammad as our Apostle(peace be upon him) and we seek refuge with Allah( Subhana Watala) from the evil of afflictions."
The Prophet(peace be upon him) said, " I have never seen the good and bad like on this day. No doubt, Paradise and Hell was displayed in front of me till I saw them in front of that wall," Qatada said:This Hadith used to be mentioned as an explanation of this Verse:-- 'O you who believe! Ask not questions about things which, if made plain to you, may cause you trouble.' (5.101)
RYADUSSALIHEEN
1399. Aus bin Aus (May Allah( Subhana Watala) be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, "Among the best of your days is Friday; so supplicate Allah more often for me in it , for your supplications will be displayed to me.'' He was asked: "O Messenger of Allah! How will our blessings be displayed to you when your decayed body will have mixed with the earth?'' He (peace be upon him) replied, "Allah has prohibited the earth from consuming the bodies of the Prophets(peace be upon them).''
In the first hadith the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) is talking about the event that will take place in the day of judgement. So we can see that he is talking about future
In the second hadith the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) is asking his companions to ask him any question.. some people may argue that he was asking question regarding islamic law/fiqh but we can see that the question that were asked were totally different.. From this we can conclude that he had
ilm -e-gayab (knowledge of the unseen) . He had knowledge about the future and the past..

So whoever emigrated for worldly benefits, or for a woman to marry, his emigration is for what he emigrated for."
