AssalamuAlaykum,

From the Ayyubid dynasty, to Khilafat-e-Osmania, to the pre-Wahhabi/Salafi Arabs, Africa, all the way to the Persian and Indo-Pak region, the blessed Mawlid celebration was not considered controversial, nor questionable subject. Today the Mawlid is still celebrated by the Turks, the Malayin's, Bosnians , some (non-Salafi) Arabs, the Barelwis of Indo-Pak region, the Sudanese so on, and so forth. In fact, the only people who don't celebrate it seem to be the Salafis, and good number of Deobandis, but that is not my problem at the end of the day, you can take it or leave it. If someone chooses not to celebrate it (Mawlid), we don't make verbal attack on them because the matter of Mawlid does not affect the Aqidah of a person. The celebration of Mawlid should not cause any divisions among Muslims, but today it unfortunately has due to the pathetic standard of the so called Salafi scholarship. My problem is with those Salafis who constantly condemn and label majority of the muslim Ummah as "misguided innovators", just for simply attending the Mawlid gatherings. In the book of Abu Dawud we find our beloved Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa aalihi wa sallam) saying; "He who deviates from the largest group of Muslims, even as much as a hand span, has himself cut off his connection with Islam"....
Take a look around the world, are all the muslims "misguided innovators"? I hope my video answers all your questions insh'Allah
