The Essence Of Mawlid
Posted 27 January 2012 - 12:08 AM (#1)
Dear brother and sisters. To begin with I wish you many congratulations that Allah Ta'ala bestowed me and you with the opportunity to once again remember and praise his beloved Messenger in the month of his blessed birth, Rabi-al-awwal.
However, as our hearts feel and express a joy at the birth of the greatest of all creation we must remind ourselves of the essence and purpose of Al Mawlid an Nabawi Sallallahu Alayhi Wasalam.
The Mawlid is much more than a celebration, the Mawlid is a commemoration, a reminder and an opportunity to thank Allah for allowing us to be from amongst the Ummah of his Beloved Sallallahu Alayhi Wasalam.
The Mawlid's ultimate purpose and aim as every one of our Ullama will tell you, is to increase our love and attachment to Sayydina RasulAllah Sallallahu Alayhi Wasalam, for He Sallallahu Alayhi Wasalam is our means of salvation and pardon in the Akhirah and the key to any hope of an abode in the garden. This is the end goal.
We must ask ourselves, whether at the end of Rabi-al-awwal our love and attachment has increased and critically examine how this is exemplified in our actions and our words. Sayyidina RasulAllah Sallallahu Alayhi Wasalam has said that "Salah is the coolness of my eyes" so, Ya ikhwaan and Ya Akhawaat if the Mawlid is to be a cause for our attachment to the Beloved then surely we should see that those of us who do not pray our compulsory prayers, now begin to do so, and those who already pray their prayers now begin to do so with congregation.
Sayyidina RasulAllah Sallallahu Alayhi Wasalam's greatest concern was for his Ummah. We must as a result of the Mawlid, see that our concern for the Ummah increases, that we give more in charity and in time to helping those in need and being at the service of the deen, be it through cleaning our Masajid or fighting for the rights of our beloved family members in Palestine and other places where gross injustice is occurring.
We must try to exemplify the beautiful character of the Messenger of Allah Sallallahu Alayhi Wasalam in our dealing and relationships with friends, family, work colleagues and strangers. By Allah, if we were to truly have the Ahlaq an Nabawwi we would find the non muslims of this land reverting to al Islam with a gaze at a Muslim. Most of all our ahlaq with fellow Muslims must change. As people of Mawlid, a greater level of adab and hikmah is demanded of us, for our claim is a great one. A lover, does not except that which is the way of his Beloved. We should not curse those who do not take part in the Mawlid, rather we should make dua for them, we should explain to them with humbleness and humility why we yearn for the opportunity to remember RasulAllah Sallallahu Alayhi Wasalam. Sincerity does not require a stamp of verification. If we are sincere in our purposes it will shine through. We must have love for all of the Ummah. We must correct those who do wrong with gentle words as did our Beloved Messenger Sallallahu Alayhi Wasalam.
and finally....we must STOP the internal destruction of Mawlid which is taking place. Our purpose is to increase our love and attachment and only that action which contributes towards achieving this should take place. We must stop the commercialisation of Mawlid. We should not allow the Mawlid to be exploited by those wishing to make a quick buck. It should remain pure and clean of any misplaced intentions. For the baraka of our gatherings will be lost if those who sit or speak to do so but for the sake of the love of RasulAllah Sallallahu Alayhi Wasalam. The Nasheeds we recite should not primarily have nice tones, but should have nice words, words which melt the heart and clean the nafs. The Ullama who speak should not waste these precious moments on talking about dalail, but instead should focus on giving us to jewels from the shamail. We should leave the gatherings with sincere love, and sincere intentions to better ourselves as Muslims, to become stronger in ibadah of Allah, to please Allah and his Messenger, to increase our attachment with Al Quran, the Masjids and with the deen.
May Allah ta'ala allow us to truly benefit from this blessed month and allow us to please his messenger Sallallahu Alayhi Wasalam with news that his follower has changed him or herself and committed to the deen that he struggled so hard to deliver to us. Ameen
Please make dua for this sinner, for he needs to better himself most of all, and by Allah he says this not due to humbleness.
