Salam

I would like to know what you think of Islamic scholars that ignore politics. Ignore the oppression of the muslim ummah. Ignore the pain they go through day in and day out, because they do not create awareness of their situation. Constantly doing speeches on fiqh and other basic matters of Islam, but ignoring the important issue of oppression. Personally i lose respect for them. How can you have the utmost respect for scholars that ignore this issue. This vital issue. When you see scholars with hundreds of people in their company, knowing they could affect their train of thought, making them realise what their brothers and sisters are going through in Palestine, Pakistan etc. Making a change. Helping to stop this oppression. BUT Its ignored.

What do you think of such scholars?

JazakAllah

Because such awareness could backfire and create unity and symptomy for deviants of other sects... would you really want that?

If they cant be bothered to even bring up the issues of today, it shows what kind of level these types of Scholars are on.

I say forget about them and simply listen to Scholars like Sheikh Imran Hosein who are in the times, you might not agree with everything he says but he sure is waking the Muslims up to reality. I'd rather listen to ONE lecture from this man, then 10 from someone else who touches upon complex matters of the deen (Designed to prove another group or sect wrong) whilst ignoring the issues of today

Death to disunity
YES to unity

Perhaps it’s not the fault of our scholars? Maybe we need to look at ourselves? Most people living in the developed world are aware of what is going but still seem to be motionless. We do not always require the scholars to be the direct and obvious cause of the effect.

Reality dictates that awareness of injustice is fruitless without sound grounding. Dr Sayyid Irfan al Alawi (may Allah preserve him) has spent innumerable time and effort enlightening people about the destruction of religious and historical sites in al Hijaz, but so far only a few have actually attempted to carry out anything remotely tangible to counter this ongoing tragedy.

It is the Scholar’s job to equip and train the Muslims with the knowledge of Islam, thereby enabling people to challenge injustices themselves, both individually and collectively. If Muslims actually knew the elementary, and eventually, the ultimate reality of Islam, they would not require the scholars to enlighten them of the grave wrongs taking place around the world, but instead have the inner desire and correct knowledge to do so. Just like usage of surma increases the eyesight; the usage of Islamic knowledge will increase the sight of the intellect and the heart.

Regarding unity, people have their opinions and methods and I suppose we have to accept them. A person could be a free loving individual, who embraces all, believing the way forward is drawing the confused towards them. For example, Mevlana Rumi (radi Allahu anh’) wrote, “Come again, please, come again, whoever you are. Religious, infidel, heretic or pagan...”. Or, one may have such conviction that it pains them to associate themselve with people who hold incorrect beleifs. The mere possibility of hearing someone disrespecting our Master, the Beloved Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) makes them tremble. For them, it’s nothing personal, but a matter of principals and conviction. It would be incorrect to throw obtuse labels at either. Everyone has their own equilibrium.

May Allah Azza wa’jal enable us to benefit from our scholars and teachers. Ameen.
