Sorry to hijack the forum whilst an intelligent debate about religion is going on in the next room, but I couldn’t help thinking and wanting to post to get all you wonderful users thoughts and comments.

Sat here fiddling with my nose stud wondering why the hell I have it in the first place, I feel violated, because I don’t even remember having it pierced in the first place. I can’t take it out because there will be an ugly gaping hole, so I may as well dress it up with something trendy.

Does a nose ring/stud beautify a female? Or is it a stamp to say she is Asian? Why do our elders feel it necessary to have a nose ring/stud, ‘without it the nose looks naked’ they say.

What about you girls do you have a nose ring/stud? If so why? Did you choose to? Do you like it?

Yours looks lovely!

My ears are pierced but it hardly gets used, its like a useless piercing that has no purpose. As for my nose well I remember my mum being vehemently against it, although she is the most placid person on earth. I think it is a coming of age thing, and she wanted us to remain kids for as long as we could.

It does beautify women, its a personal thing. Some like it some don't. Some people go over board with it though the nose rings, the earrings, the necklaces, the bangles like a walking jewellery shop. It's also a symbol of wealth in some cases, you'll notice that in the elder community.

I think Simplicity is the way forward, less is more. I don't think i'll ever get my nose pierced that will give me an identity crisis, lol.

Salaaaams!!! Well... being of the pakistani ethnicity myself i know it is in the majority of occasions "a must" to have the nose pierced with some exceptions. I falll into these exceptions lol. I had to BEG my parents to get my nose pierced. It was kinda the thing of one day NO full stop and then the next ok then ill think about it :D but it was a happy ending.. I got it pierced. Havent got a big hula hoop in mine.. its a small stud. i just think it looks nice and well. just nice :) it makes u look truely womanified i guess.

I'm sure I'm going through some kind of identity crisis, who am I? and where did this stud come from? When its been there all my life!

I think you girls are selling it to me, womanly and personal, and Thanks sis for your compliment. I guess I will have to go nose stud shopping find something that's more me, and then I'll accept it.

Come on brothers, those 'jokes' are more painful than funny, I dare you to try something different. :P

(No idea why I'm commenting on this issue lol)

The only people in my head who get their noses pierced are (a) off the boat Asians including my respected mother (although she has long abandoned it, only really seen it in wedding photos!)and (b) Mirpuri rUdE cHiCkZ.
I don't claim the above to be correct, and don't want to be offensive, but it's my perception!

Tbh I'm just generally not a fan of jewellery; when my little sister asks me which this or that looks better, I tell her - neither!

My sister really wants to get it done but isn't allowed to...It depends on what you have. I hate those "nathli" things! (Probably because it reminds me of a certain someone that I'd rather not think about).
What do you do if you have a cold? how are you supposed to wipe your nose? Or is there a technique to do it?
I don't have one and don't intend to get one either. It's just not me I guess. My khala's been on my case though but I'm not giving in!

it starts anyway  to show the wealth etc but in few cultures only married girls allowed and in gypsies that is again married ladies have to wear and you can differntiate the ordinary and married ladies etc but now its become a fashion .

now gilrs can wear nose stud or a nuth in there nose if they got no hole but in the past the nose studs avaialable only for pierced nose and the bride have to have that , there is no choice and even some they were having pierced nose same day on wedding.

again like other jewlery that is optional , girls can wear if they feel like or if not then avoid that .

When they introduced sola singhar must be one is a nose stud .

same the long and the real long was a nose stud but very big and they got 1inch or bigger mirrir fitted in the middle of that pendent type stud and that was called real long " long da lashkra " and that mirror making lashkaras.

I seen my great grand mothers long and wonder how they able to wear that its like a big pendent and the pin behind was too thick like a tooth pick so Allah knows how they were wearing  and people wearing 10 to 16 earings in one ear.

I think because your so used to it your only seeing it as an obstacle. My mum used to say its haram if you dont get it pierced! I would like 2 get my nose pierced and put a tiny stud in it Im not too fond of the gigantic hoops etc though. I think it does make girls look more like women. I dont wear much jewellary either Im more of a tom boy when it comes to these things but i think thats somethin which will stay there like forever an it wont bother me as much :P. Also my grandma has both sides done is this common or is it just her?

I think it was introduced for this kind of jewellery, I definitely think its way over the top even for a bride.

There is no special technique in wiping your nose if you have a nose stud, it's on the side of your nose not inside it. It's kind of weird, why would girls pierce their nose if the guys do not find it attractive or beautiful? I won't say no to earrings, love them to bit especially the dangly ones.

I'll tell you guys a scary story, I went to Pakistan a few years back and there was this woman who sells jewellery village to village and pierce noses. One woman sat next to her while she piercing her nose with a needle, sewing her nose like a cloth. :pinch: UFF!! I saw her eyes flinch with pain! Horrid!

Oh my! You know that's actually not that hard to believe. My khala (when trying to encourage me to get mine done) was saying how she really wanted her nose pierced so she did it herself :ermm:
And I thought the nose stud was the same as those earring studs

Doesn't it have the above looking piece to go inside? I thought it did, which is why I assumed cleaning the nose would be missions?

"Cultivation decreases decoration". It's practically an axiom of life.

I love understatement, in anything, I like whispers that are 'louder than shouts'. I think they look beautiful, if done right, because it's one of those things that is very easy to do wrong. It's like a millionaire, who if you take a penny away from, is not a millionaire anymore. If a 'penny' is missing from the nose-stud, it goes from 'millionaire' to 'not a millionaire'. So tread carefully and always get a second opinion.

It's a cultural hallmark and we shouldn't call it 'ugly', because our ancestors used it customarily and with it not being Islmaically erroneous; we should honour it as show of gratitude to our fore-mothers.

@Fekay, you don't have an opinon, but you still couldn't help telling us that

If my wife to be wore that on my wedding day Id run off stage and hide under a bush somewhere. I suppose if its a small stud it looks nice, but what if you got a huge bogey stuck in your nose on that side?

How do they eat with that thing on? Through the whole or around it? Or do they have to take the whole thing off? Or just not eat haha. It really is amazing. Also arab women wear really big jewellery. I really dont know how they survive. Oh and you get them girls who have been wearing really heavy earings and they dont have a hole in their ears anymore because its turned into a cut, where they cannot put the earing on because it will just fall off. I dont know how to explain it :S. Im sure some sisters will understand what im saying.

mureed bhai ask her before dont put that big thing in your nose instead of running on the wedding day and if you hide in a bush your all fancy clothes will ruin and , by the way do you like her to sit on the stage in her wedding dress and make up and full jewlery etc to show her self to all gustes or you will not have a stage show.

that was happening before if the girl side dont have this nuth etc but if the in laws brought one same stime on  nikha etc they pierced her nose and hang this in her nose but now again people consult these things before and they knew if they require that or they are available with a stud and you dont need the piercing .

Many times it is a type of force also by the in laws after engagement...to pierec the nose as they want there daughter in law to look beautiful...for them no Natt (big nose ring) means no beauty.

It does looks good, but it should be a personal choice...thanks to Allah didnt happen this with me,but my sister went through this.

In m city women use to have small stud  on the nose, but after seeing Sania Mirza...most of the girls/women here in India started  following her by wearing the nose ring.
