It's dubbed 'the most exclusive bed in the world' - and with a price tag of £4m that's pretty much what you'd expect to get.

The Baldacchino Supreme is the result of a collaboration between British designer Stuart Hughes and Fratelli Basile Interiors of Nocera Superiore Italy. Only two will ever be made.

So what do you get for that kind of money? Well, the fabric is Italian silk and cotton, while the structure is handmade using a combination of chestnut wood, ash wood and cherry wood. Oh, and 107kg of 24ct gold.

According to designer Hughes, the headboard can be customised with diamonds or a variety of other stones.

Yes, exclusivity! The makers make their mark-up and the buyers purchase an appreciating asset.

Mclaren F1's were £500k in the 90's, now they're worth over £2mill, same with the Ferarri Enzos and Bugatti Veyrons.

It's the proverbial girl-next-door then; timid, fair and graceful; the allure is in the paradoxical proximities, so close, yet so far (or fat) :)
