An advertising campaign organised by Exploring Islam Foundation was launched in London a few days ago attempting to redress the balance portraying a positive image of Islam. The ads are to appear on Underground trains, bus stops and taxis.

Results of a recent YouGov poll (2152 adults):

- 58% of people associate Islam with extremism.
- 50% with terrorism.
- 13% Islam is a religion of peace.
- 6% Islam is a religion of justice.
- More than 40% disagreed Muslims have had a positive impact on British society.
- Up to 70% agreed Islam encourages the repression of women.
- Less than 20% agreed Islam promotes fairness and equality.

There are around 1.6m Muslims in Britain (2.8% of the population) only second to Christians. London has the highest proportion of Muslims in Britain around 8.5%.

I think the poll results are worrying and we need to something to bridge the gap otherwise hatred and and ill-feeling  . Hope the Ad campain changes people's views I think Londoners are a bit more open-minded. Clearly we need to do more to present the true message of Islam to the masses what are our Ahle Sunnah scholars doing about this?

Assalamu alaikum,

It's a really good initiative and I have seen one ad at the westminister station. All we need is to promote the message forward in a positive light rather then lowering down ourselves to the level of fascists groups like BNP or EDL
The tranquility of both worlds lies in two things: magnanimity towards friends and the wise management of enemies.
