Salaam,

As we all know, the arabic language which is entwined with our religion is very deep and has many meanings depending on the structure of the sentence, harakat on the particular words and so on.

In this case, the Salaat means "natlubu min Allaahi Ta^aalaa an-yazeeda sayedana Muhammad Ta^theemaa" which means, We ask Allaah ^azzawajal to raise the rank of Prophet Muhammad.

I vouch for haqq, even when against myself!

Sallallahu= Blessings of Allah be
Alaihi = on him
Wa Sallam = and peace

From the quran (Translation - KanzulAman):-

[Ahzab 33:43] Huwa allathee yusallee AAalaykum wamala-ikatuhu liyukhrijakum mina alththulumati ila alnnoori wakana bialmu/mineena raheeman
[Ahzab 33:43] It is He Who sends blessings upon you *, and so do His angels, so that He may bring you out from darkness into light; and He is Most Merciful upon the Muslims.

Here Yusallee is translated as blessings. Virtually all the most popular translations have the same translation of this word.
