Imam Bukhari allocated a whole chapter in his Saheeh titled: Chapter of mentioning Muawiyah (ra).

- Among the Faza'el of Muawiyah (ra):

Which means: Muawiyah made a Witr Salat with one Rak'ah with the presence of one servant of Ibn Abbas, so he came to Ibn Abbas (complaining). Ibn Abbas said: leave him for he accompanied Rasoolullah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam.

2- In another narration in Bukhari:

Ibn Abbas was told: what do you say about amirul muminin Muawiyah for he did Witr only with one rak'ah? Ibn Abbas said: He is a Faqih.

3- Al Khallal narrated with AUTHENTIC isnaad to Ibn Umar (ra):

I heard Ibn Umar saying: " I have never seen anyone after Rasoolullah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam more generous than Muawiyah. He was asked: not evern your father (i.e Sayyidina Umar)?. He replied: My father Umar is better than Muawiyah, but Muawiyah is more generous than him".

4- Saheeh Bukhari Sharif, under the chapter: Bab Thikr Muawiyah Radiya Allahu anhu:

Humran said: Muawiyah radiya Allahu anhu said: You people praying a salat. We have accompanied the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam and we did not see him pray it, and he prohibit it from praying them, meaning the two Rak'ahs after Asr Salat".

Which shows he accompanied the Prophet, sallallahu alayhi wa aalihi wa sallam, and was knowledgable in the Sunnah.

5- Tha-Habi said in his Siyar 3/133:

Which means: " Umar (ra) place the whole lands of Shaam under Muawiyah, and Uthman continued that policy. I said (Tha-Habi ): It is enough (honour) for someone that Umar places him in charge, then Uthman, on an important land, and he controls it well, and takes good care of it, and pleases people with his patience and generosity. This man (Muawiyah) led and controlled the whole world with his perfect mind, excessive patience, big heart, and his strong tactics and smartness. he was beloved to his subjects (Shaami's). He worked as an Amir of Shaam for 20 years, then as a Khalifah for another 20 years, and no one under his rule criticized him, but indeed the nations were under his control and he subjigated the Arabs and non Arabs, and his rulership extended over the Haramayn, Egypt, Shaam, iraq, Khurasan, Persia, Arab peninsula, yaman, and the western hemishere (from the arabian peninsula) and more"

6- From Tarikhul Islam by Tha-Habi  with an authentic Isnaad:

Which means: " Abu Muslim Khawlani came to Muawiyah saying: You are fighting with Ali, are you like him?. Muawiyah said: no by Allah I know that Ali is better and more worthy, but don't you know that Uthman was killed unjustly? and I am his cousin and I want the punishment for his blood, so go to Ali and tell him to hand me over the killers of Uthman and I will hand him over the control (of the lands and people). They came to Ali and told him, and he refused and did not hand over the killers".

This narration clears Muawiyah (ra) from the evil things, the Rafidhi's accuse him with. It shows you what Muawiyah's opinoin was based on and what were his views as he presented them to people.

P.S. though this narration is authentic according to Tha-habi, make sure to understand that Ali wanted to have the justice system established in an Islamic court of law, not simply to hand over a group of people who are accused of a crime without verification beyond a doubt to their opponent. Besides, Ali (as) was not involved, nor was he present at the murder of Sayyidina Uthman (ra). Such a big crime requires thorough investigation and verification, that was the stand of Sayyidina Ali. Also, Sayyidina Ali wasnted Muawiyah to follow the Islamic proceedures of taking people to court.i.e. complain against specific people, and give them the chance to asnwer their accusation.

7- Among his Faza'el (ra) that he wrote letters to the Prophet, sallallahu alayhi wa aalihi wa sallam. Some Rafidhi's brought a confusion about this point, and pointed out that Muawiyah (ra) did not write any Ayah of the Qur'an, and therefore he is from Kuttabul-Wahi. Well, it is true that there is no evidence that Muwiyah wrote the Qur'an for teh Prophet, sallallahu alayhi wa aalihi wa sallam, as it was being revealed, BUT he did write letters of correspondence to the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa aalihi wa sallam, without anyone disagreeing on that. Therefore by definition he is a writer of Wahi, anyway. because what the Prophet, sallallahu alayhi wa aalihi wa sallam, says is also Wahi. So he is a writer of Wahi. be careful to that point.

8- In his time, Cyprus was conquered, and all the Muslims in Cyprus know Islam through Muawiyah (ra)'s army and people. The same applies for the liberation of Constantinople.

Another few authentic Manqabat of Muawiyah (ra):

Ibn Kathir narrated in Bidaya and Nihaya with an authentic Isnaad:

" When Maawiyah (ra) sees Al Hasan bin Ali ( ra) would say: Welcome son of Rasoolullah, welcome, and he would order (his soldiers) to give him 300,000 (dinars as a gift). And whenever he (Muawiyah) sees Ibn Zubayr (ra) he would say: Wlecome O son of the aunt of Rasoolullah and son of his Hawari and he would order a 100,000 (dinars as a gift) for him".

2- In a Isnaad Hasan Al Ajiri narrated in his Book Kitab Ash-Sharia  5\2469: ! .

Which means: " When Ali bin Abi Taleb was killed, and Al Hasan bin Ali (ra) came to Muawiyah, Muawiyah said: If you did not have any quality over yazid (my son) oher than your mother is from Quraysh and his mother is from the tribe of Kalb, that would have been enough honour. How about when your mother is Fatima, the daughter of Rasoolullah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam?".

Another Manqabat of Muawiyah (ra):

What Imam Ibn Hajar mentioned on the commentary on Bukhari Sharif, because Muawiyah (ra) sent the first Muslim Navy. In Fat'h Al Bari vol 6, page 120:

which means: " Al Muhallab said about this Hadith: this is a Manqabat (good quality/character) for Muawiyah because he is the first one to do a sea invasion".

ibn kathir:

sorry, i didnt translate for a reason, now that, my other post has been deleted so atleast i would like to translate.

the fact of the matter is that our dear learned brother has provided opinions of some companions about hazrat muwaiya bin abi sufyaan from decent references. however, since as understood unanimously by classical hadith scientists that there is not a single sound hadith from Rasul Allah(S) in praise of  hazrat muawiya, atleast, i dont know of such hadith but i am actually surprised at my dear brother is that he so knowledgeable and well versed in Islamic sciences yet he did not mention the hadith from the WORDS of Rasul Allah(S) and that too is from sahih muslim.

as above it says that Ibn Abbas was sent to call for muawiya a couple of times and every time hazrta muawiya was busy eating so when the Messenger(S) was told about it He(S) said FOR muawiya that 'May ALLAH NEVER fill His Belly'

this is what we have as 'authentically' reported from teh WORDS fo the Noble Messenger(S) but what i dont undrestand is that why do learned people cite all other things but miss this from thr Prophet(S) Himself?

secondly, in Ibn Kathir as above, it says that hazrat muwaiya bin abi sufyaan used to eat too much and also used to say that i do not stop eating because i am 'filled' but rather i get tired of eating so i stop.

subhan Allah, Rasul Allah(s) says something then it happens.
