Some hadith collections before al-Bukhari wa Muslim:

Sahifah Hammam ibn Munabbih (d.110AH)
Az-Zuhri (d.124AH) on orders of Caliph Umar bin Abdul Aziz
Kitab al Athar - Imam Abu Hanifa (d.148AH)
Musannaf of Ibn Jurayj (d. 150 AH)
Musannaf of Ma`mar bin Rashid (d. 153 AH)
Sufyan ath-Thawri (d.161AH)

The Kitab al-Athar and Sahifah Hammam ibn Munabbih are perhaps the earliest known hadith collections. Imam e Azam related some ahadith directly from Sahaba (Radi Allah Anhu) and most of them through tabi'i (Radi Allah Anhu).

Hammam bin Munabbih was a student of Abu Hurayrah (Radi Allah Anhu) and well-known among the scholars of the hadith to be trustworthy. Of the 138 narrations in the Sahifa, 98 of them are faithfully witnessed in the later collections of al-Bukhari and Muslim, both through narrations of Abu Hurayrah (Radi Allah Anhu) and witnessing narrations from other Companions (Radi Allah Anhu).
