Why would Muslims want to keep a dog as a pet, when we run to the opposite side of the road if we see the creatures on the road? Even if it is muzzled and walking the owner?

That's really more of a Desi thing... I love dogs. I've played with em and all you really need to do is keep still and show dominance to them. If you're scared of em, of course they'll run after you. :P

Hmm what if you're acting brave but secretly scared? I heard dogs can smell fear  ehem.
Their eyes sleepless, their faces pale, Lovers constantly sigh in grief.
What has become of these faces that once beamed with youth and vivacity?
Love is like musk that cannot stay hidden: its fragrance cannot but reveal its presence.
Only those who abide in realms beyond space deserves to be called 'faqir', O Bahu

Its not  just dogs they're scared of. Its cats, rabbits and I think they're scared of anything else that moves (even humans at times!) lol. Its quite sad actually. Its Amazing how some Muslims can sit with lions and others cant even sit with cats....

Well,  I know that keeping dogs to guard your house is ok but they must NOT enter the property. And the have to be 40 yards/feet/metres (sorry I forgot which one) away. But make sure that the dogs saliva does not touch YOU or YOUR clothes. Dogs saliva is najas and can spread diseases.
