Hadzrat Sultan-al Arifin Shaikh Syed Ismail ( r.a )
Shaikh Ismail ibn 'Abd al-Qadir ibn 'Abd al-Jabbar ibn Salih ibn 'Abd al-Qadir al-Jilani, qaddasallahu sirrah. He was born in Baghdad. His spiritual title is Sultan al-Arifin (Sultan of The Gnostics). According to the little booklet which is stored in the surau (small prayer house) situated near his tomb, he was born on the 17th of Rabi’ al-Awwal 867 A.H. (or this could be an error; could have been the date of his death instead). Upon visiting the tomb of his illustrious ancestor in al-Madinah al-Munawwarah, ie. The Holy Prophet, may the choicest of Allah's blessings that will last to the end of Eternity be showered upon him, Shaikh Ismail was instructed by the spirit of The Holy Prophet to go the Far East to spread Islam. He reached Malacca with some of his relatives and followers and managed to convert the Sultan of Malacca, who was then a Hindu, to become a Muslim. Even though he did spend most of his time on the mainland of Malacca, he usually went back to his sawma'ah (cell) on the peaceful island of Pulau Besar ( also known as Great Island ) every evening, by walking on the surface of the sea that separates the island from the mainland (a distance of about 4 miles)! Apparently, from the accounts of people who have met him spiritually, Shaykh Ismail shared some of the physical features of Shaykh 'Abd al-Qadir al-Jilani. He was fair-skinned, almost reddish in colour; slightly thin; of medium height; possessed a long white beard and had Arab facial features. He was also said to be very fond of children. Unfortunately, none of his teachings have been written down, and so was lost in history. Not too long ago, a very popular Naqshbandi shaykh of the modern times from Cyprus, who is also a descendant of Shaykh 'Abd al-Qadir al-Jilani, came to Pulau Besar Malacca, and visited the tomb of Shaykh Ismail, and had a 'spiritual conversation' with him, witnessed by some of the disciples of the visiting Naqshbandi shaykh.

If you don't respect your Spiritual Master then how will you master your spiritual self?
