Some people say that when the Sahaba never celebrated the Wilaadaah of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), then who are we to celebrate his birthday?

Can somebody help me out in this.  Especially brother Hasnain.
I went through the search, but didn't find any thing supporting this.  I can't find proof of Sahaba celebrating the Milaad.

Wasalaam.

Bay naboowatay ka YA RASOOL ALLAH...
Wa bay walah yahtay ka YA ALI YA ALI YA ALI...

Aslamoalaikum wa rah matullah he wa bara kato ho wa maghfirato ho wa ajroon azeem,

PROOF No. 1
From the enlightened period of the four Caliphs there is sufficient and strong proof that the esteemed Companions of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.) had established in their homes and in the gatherings Meelad-un-Nabi. Further, all the mentors, accomplished saints and learned of Islam held Moulood functions by invitation and fixation and celebration, and the necessity, thereby engaging in this great act of worship with much spiritual felicity.

‘Eulogy of the Prophet, to me, is good worship. The hypocrite cannot tolerate this, my servitude.

PROPHET’S DAY, Life of the Prophet (s.a.w.) Mouloodun-Nabi, Meelad Jalsa, to have any of these gatherings on an arranged day, by invitation, with celebration and with consistent necessity and to recite Salaat-o-salaam, addressing the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.) standing, and to prepare food, all these are actions of worship, and hence recompensible.

‘In the heart of a Muslim is entrenched the honour of Mustafa (peace be upon him).

‘Our worth and respect is solely due to the name of Mustafa (peace be upon him).

PROOF No. 2

In Mouloodun-Nabi and poetic salaami there is only Durood and Salaam and the life of the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.) which is related to the people and they are thus informed of the Prophet’s (s.a.w.) exemplary actions and of his practical life. This is Islam’s most important obligation and best form of worship, and herein is success and goodness for all Muslims.

Allah, The Most High, says:

‘In the Prophet of Allah there is for you an excellent exemplar.

That it is necessary for you to learn the ways of the Prophet (s.a.w.) and then follow in his footsteps, because his person is the fountainhead of all blessings. Surah Ahzab Verse 22, in this verse Allah The Almighty commands us that establish the Meelad, record the life of the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.) through talks and through poetic expression and engender his exemplary behaviour and salute and bless him and direct the Muslims herein so that they can act fully. This verse of the Qur’an supports the holding of Mouloodun -Nabi.

PROOF No. 3

The Holy Prophet’s (s.a.w.) distinction as being the Best of the Prophets is a fact whereupon the people of Islam have concurred. Allama Taftazani (upon him peace) states that all Muslims are united in that the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) is the crown of all creation. (Sharah Fiqah Akbar - Page 22).

THUS, is understood herefrom that, if anyone does not regard the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) as the best of the Prophets or disengages from his laud and praise or displays disregard for the Moulood-un-Nabi or Durood and Salaam or the standing up in respect of the Prophet (s.a.w.), or to partake in the food, or he rejects these actions, or says it is a bad innovation, or uses disrespectful terms about them, then doubtless such a person, in the view of AHLE-SUNNAT WAL JAMA’AT, is lost, astray, leads astray and there is fear of disbelief - Allah’s Protection thereform.

PROOF No. 4

‘Without doubt, the Night of the birth of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) is more majestic then the Night of Majesty (LAILATUL-QADR)’. (From MAJMUAT-UL-FATAWA, Page 87, Vol. 1 by Allama Lucknowi).

PROOF No. 5

The birth of the Holy prophet (peace be upon him) is an event of great happiness and immense felicity and rejoicing and this happiness is not confined to time and place, but in fact the LOVE of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) is entrenched within every believer at all times.

IN AN AUTHENTIC Hadith (reported by Bukhari and Muslim), the Prophet of Islam (peace be upon him)declares! None of you shall be believers until I become more beloved to him than his children, his parents and all mankind’, and in a further narration: ‘...than his life and his possessions and his family!

A poet says:

Without love of the Prophet none reaches Allah,

He who is not the Prophet’s is not Allah’s.

In whose eyes there is an absence of LOVE,

He shall never behold the beauty of the beloved.

Belief is incomplete without the Prophet’s LOVE,

Any monotheist shall never a Muslim be.

Prayer, alms fast and pilgrimage all done,

alas, then too, I can never be a Muslim.

Until I am sacrificed to the honour of Mustafa (peace be upon him),

God Witness - my belief shall never attain perfection.

The Shaikh of Orators, Allama Ibni Nabata says:

"That Muslim who honours and reveres the Birth of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him), will be worthy of Paradise."

"The hateful infidel Abu Lahab, freed his slaves Thuwaiba in happiness, when she brought him the news of the Glorious Prophet’s birth! Because of this display of happiness at the Birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), Abu Lahab, a kaafir, receives reprieve in his punishment on the eve of every Monday! So what a believer, a lover of the Holy Prophet ( peace be upon him) who in the happiness of the Prophet’s (s.a.w.) birth holds celebration, recounts the events of the birth of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) in prose and poetry, recites Durood and Salaam, stands in respect, prepared food? Indeed his is great reward and elevated station.

PROOF No. 6

Allama Ibni Jawzi and Shaikh Abdul Haq Muhaddith of Delhi (Allah’s Mercy upon them) declares that:

"Whichever Muslim holds the Moulood Shareef of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) and recites or enrols others to recite in prose or poetry or through lectures or discourses about the Holy Prophet’s (s.a.w.) life, his battles, his miracles or his noble character, then there shall be thousands of blessings for such implementers of good.

"The Holy Companions (on whom be peace) enlightened their gatherings with the remembrances of the Great Prophet (peace be upon him). To recite Moulood Shareef and to establish such gatherings in a means of reward in both worlds. There is no type of sin whatever therein, and in the Hadith it is substantiated to gather people for occasions of happiness.

"Hazrat Bilal (Allah be pleased with him) gathered the people on direction of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) and talked to them about the Prophet’s Birth. Shariat has permitted the celebration of the Prophet’s Birthday and the establisher thereof is deserving of great rewards." (Majmua tul-Fatawa Vol. 2 Page 282)

PROOF No. 7

In an authenticated narration, hazrat Abi Mas’ood Al-Ansari (Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) says that any Muslim who institutes a commendable practice in Islam, he will receive reward therefor, and whoever acts thereupon, he shall receive that reward too, without their reward diminishing. (Muslim - Mishkaat Vol. 1 Page 97).

PROOF No. 8

Whichever Muslim calls another Muslim towards works of good and invites him to such action, then he will enjoy the rewards of the implementer of that action. (Muslim - Mishkaat Vol. 1 Page 96).

PROOF No. 9

Hadrat Allama Maulana Hay Lucknowi (Allah’s Mercy on him), writes:

"The majority of leaders of a Spiritual Order (Mercy upon them) have been intimated through dreams that the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) showed happiness at the celebration of Meelad Shareef."

Shaikhul-Islam Hazrat Maulana Abdul Haq Muhaddith of Delhi (Allah’s Mercy be upon him) states:

"Among the proven benefits of Meelad Shareef is that, that year will be a period of no fear, but of good tidings for the realisation of intentions and desires. Thus, those people who decry it as ‘bidat’ (innovation) then know that such objection is in contrast with the Shariat of Islam. Holding Meelad-un-Nabi is of great reward and recompense.

"The Muslim masses of Makka Muazzama, Madina Munawwara, Basra, Yemen, Persia, India and Pakistan, after the sighting of the moon for the month of Rabiulawwal, rejoice and celebrate Meelad-un-Nabi and organise, invite and with predetermination set about to hold functions. Also during other months on different dates Meelad-un-Nabi is held where people rejoice and become recipients of reward."

The Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) states: ‘Actions are founded upon intentions, for every person, the fruit of his intention’, (Bukhari, Muslim, Abu Daud - Majmuatul - Fatawa Vol. 2 Page 282).

PROOF No. 10

To inform the Muslims about the Great, Glorious Prophet (s.a.w.) of Allah, to recite Moulood Shareef, to send Salaat and Salaam in Urdu verse as is customarily read or in any other form, and to stand while reciting salaam, and to feed the people and to distribute sweets is permissible and proper. None of the Ulama of the Ahle-Sunnat Wal Jama’at have differed about this.

Imam Muhammad Buseeri (Allah’s Mercy upon him) writes in his Qasseda Burda Shareef:

‘Say whatever thou want in his praise for whatever is said will all be fitting and correct to his person’.

‘Say everything you wish in appraisal of your Prophet, only do not view him as the Christians called Hazrat Isa (peace be upon him)’ i.e. do not assign sonhood.

Allah The Almighty says:

‘And (OH PROPHET!) We have Elevated for you your remembrances’ (Surah Alam-Nashrah, Verse 4).

Allah The Almighty says in a Hadith-e-Qudsi:

‘When I am remembered, thou art remembered with Me’. (Durrul-Manthoor-Imam Suyuti, (Allah’s Mercy on him)).

In the azaan, iqamat, Friday sermon, in the Kalimah Tayyiba, in the Tahiyyat the name of the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.) is mentioned with the name of Allah. On the doors of paradise and upon the portals of the Arsh, the esteemed name of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) is engraved. Amongst the Prophets and the Angels, his name is elevated.

In the world all sane people take his name with reverence and request and where Allah Almighty has commanded His Obedience he has also impressed upon the following of His Beloved Prophet (peace be upon him). When Allah is remembered by His creation, then the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) is also remembered. Allah Himself sends Salaam upon the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) and Commands others to do the same!

PROOF No. 11

To celebrate the birth of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him), with happiness and to praise him, to scent the gathering with perfume and rosewater and to lighten the atmosphere with the sweet melody of salaam, is all in all a means to earning reward and great blessing. How blessed is that heart that has, with the fervent warmth of love and devotion, gathered the people at the function of Meelad and made them happy with food, sweets and salaami. Clean and pure are those tongues that speak with high praise of the Great Prophet of Allah.

‘The moon split, the tree prostrated, the sun obeyed and the stone spoke. With all that, I do not say: Thou art God’.

In an authentic narration the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) says: ‘Without doubt I have been sent as a gift of mercy’.

PROOF No. 12

Allah says in a Hadith-e-Qudsi: Oh Prophet, ‘I have made your remembrances, so whosoever remembers thee, in fact has remembered ME’.

Allah The Almighty says in the Qur’an: ‘The Prophet is closer to the believers than their own selves’. (Surah Ahzab Verse 7).

In another verse Allah says: ‘And We have not sent thee but as a mercy to the complete universe’. (Surah Ambiyya, Verse 106).

Allama Sayyed Ja’far Barzanji (Allah’s Mercy upon him) writes in his book ‘Moulood Barzanji’.

To stand while reciting salaam upon the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) or to stand while mentioning the birth events of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) is a good action. Leaders of the Narrators have deemed the standing in Meelad Shareef as desired and good. Thus, happiness for him who stands for the respect of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) and whose aim and wish is the honour of the Illustrious Prophet (peace be upon him). (Majmuatul-Fatawa, Vol. 2, Page 284).

PROOF No. 13

In a Hadith-e-Qudsi Allah says: ‘Everybody seeks my favour and I seek your happiness Oh Muhammad’.

"Both worlds want Allah’s favour.

Allah wants Muhammad’s favour!

Soul of Imaan, kernel of the Qur’an, life of religion

All this is the LOVE of Rahmatul-lil-Alameen!"

"In takbeer and kalima, in prayer and azaan

The name of Muhammad is joined at Allah’s.

Upon every tent and palace, upon every dome

You will find beautified by the name of Muhammad.

Says Adam: I found in the wideness of paradise

Written upon the Celestial Tree (TOOBA), the name of Muhammad!"

PROOF No. 14

To prepare (niyaz/lungar) food at Meelad-un-Nabi gathering and to feed the people or distribute to them is an action of many learned, leaders, spiritual mentors and stains. Such an action is termed ‘mandoob’ or ‘hasan’ i.e. the implementor of such action received great reward.

HAZRAT SHAIKH Abdul Haq Muhaddith of Delhi (Allah’s Mercy upon him) says: The benefits of Moulood-un-Nabi are:

1. The rejoicers of Moulood-un-Nabi will enjoy peace and safety that year.

2. He will receive glad tidings from Allah of the realisation and fulfilment of his wishes and desires. (Majmuatul-Fatawa-Allama Abdul Hay Lucknowi, Page 286).

PROOF No. 15

In the collections of Hazrat Abdullah Ibni Masood (Allah be pleased with him) is mentioned by him that : ‘That which Muslims deem good, it is good in the eyes of Allah.’

(Masnad Ahmed, Tibrani, Durre Mukhtar Vol. 4, Page 32; Majumatul Fatawa Vol. 1, Page 342; Fatawa Azizi Vol. 1, Page 93).

PROOF No. 16

To hold Moulood Shareef is one of the great actions to attain nearness to Allah and this is obtained by feeding the people, reciting the Qur’an and by recitation of the praises of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him). (Resala Moulood Page 224, Hassan Ibni Ali Azhari Mudabigui - Resala Hasnul-Maqsad fi Amalil-Maulud, Page 22 - Allama Jalaluddin Suyuti).

PROOF No. 17

Im Makka Mukarrama, Madina Munawwara, Yemen, Persia, Egypt, Basra, India, Pakistan and other country’s people, during Rabiul awwal or other months, celebrate with great splendour Prophet’s Day and hold Meelad gatherings, where Qur’an is recited, the Prophet’s (s.a.w.) praises are sung, food is fed or distributed - people engage in all this with magnitude and purpose.

PROOF No. 18

Ibni Abil Majd says: ‘ Oh lover of the Prophet, immerse yourself in his love and perfume your tongue by his remembrance, and care not about the rejecters, because the sign of Allah’s LOVE is the love of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him)’. (Kitab Jauhar-ul-Jur, Page 30).

Hazrat Alli (Karamallahu wajhahu) says: ‘The Holy Prophet is more dear to us than our wealth, our children, our fathers, our forebears, our mothers, and more dear to us than cold water at the time of severe thirst.’ (Kitab Jauhar-ul-Jur, Page 30).

PROOF No. 19

Allama Maulana Abul-Khattab Maghribi (Allah’s Mercy upon him) one of the renowned Ulama, wrote the first book on Moulood which he named ‘Kitabul-Tanweer fi Moulod Basheerin-Nazeer’, wherein, during the 7th Century Hijri, he writes this narration:

"Hazrat Abdullah Ibni Abbas reported that one day at his home he was discussing with others the events of the Birth of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) and the listeners were enhanced by what they heard, they thanked Allah and sent Durood upon the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.). At this time the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) came to them, suddenly, and said to them: My intercession for you is made accepted." (At-tanweer, Page 25).

From this is proven that the Companions of the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.) loved and believed in establishing Meelad-un-Nabi and invited people to listen to the events of the Prophet’s (s.a.w.) life and his birth.

Rejecters of Meelad, dishonourers of the Prophet (s.a.w.) should take heed of this action of this great Companion of the Prophet (s.a.w.), his cousin, the great Qur’anic commentator, Hazrat Abdullah ibni Abbas (Allah be pleased with him), and repent from their bad beliefs.

ALLAH, The Almighty, says: ‘Allah leads astray whomsoever He wishes and Allah Guides whomsoever He wishes, on the straight path’. And astray are those who close upon them the doors of guidance’. (Surah An’aam Verse 39).

PROOF No. 20

It is reported by Hazrat Abu Darda (Allah be pleased with him) that he accompanied the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) to the house of Hazrat Aamir Ansari (Allah be pleased with him) where he was relating to his children and his tribe, whom he gathered, the events of the Birth of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) and repeated: ‘This is the day, this is the day.’

The Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) exclaimed: ‘Definitely Allah has opened His doors of Mercy upon thee, and all the Angels Beseech Allah for thy forgiveness; He who follows your action (Establishes Meelad-un-Nabi) he shall enjoy acquittance’. (Kitabut-Tanweer fi Maulad Basheerin-Nazeer, Page 25).

By the words: ‘This day, this day’, is understood that it was the special day of the celebration of the Holy Prophet’s Birth, that is, the 12th of RABIUI AWWAL, and Hazrat Aamir (Allah be pleased with him) was reciting Moulood Shareef with special feeling.

PROOF No. 21

A narration from Sahih Muslim:

The Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) was asked about the fasting on Mondays which he observed. The Prophet (peace be upon him) answered: It is the day I was born and it is the day revelation first descended upon me. (Ad-durarul-Munazzam, Page 139).

The Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) did not command the fasting on Mondays but observed it himself as it was the day of his Birth and the day of commencement of revelations, thus this day had special significance for the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him), thus his fasting on that day. So whoever commemorates his birthday and rejoices is the recipient of great good and reward.

To hold Meelad Shareef on a fixed day, to invite, to gather, to celebrate and to establish it, to distribute food and sweets is completely in accordance with the Code of Islam. Prayers, fasting, Friday prayers, the two Eids, the Pilgrimage and all obligations and actions are on fixed days and times.

The acceptors of Meelad have reckoned the permissibility of fixation of the function on a certain day in view of the fixed fast of the 10th of Muharram. This deduction is completely correct.

QUOTATIONS FROM THE RULINGS OF THE GRAND MUFTIS OF THE FOUR SCHOOLS REGARDING MEELAD SHAREEF

PROOF No. 22

Allama Jamal Hanafi, Mufti of Makka Mukarrama (Allah’s Mercy upon him) was questioned that: Every year during the month of Rabiul-awwal Shareef the celebrations in honour of the Prophet’s birthday are held, what is your ruling? Is it commendable, as many learned have ruled, like Imam Jalaluddin Suyuti, or is it a bad innovation?

ALLAMA Jamal Hanafi (Allah’s Mercy upon him) replies: ‘Moulood Shareef is from among the good innovations’.

In support hereof Allama Jamal gives reference of Imam Abu Shammah and Imam Sakhawi (Allah’s Mercy upon them). Imam Abu Shammah was the mentor of Allama Nawawi and Allama Imam Sakhawi was the mentor of Allama Mulla Ali Qari Hanafi (Allah be pleased with them all).

Maulana Abdur-Rahman Siraj, Mufti of Makka Mukarrama was asked the same question. Here is his answer:

"Meelad Shareef is a Permissible action, that is, a good innovation. The greater majority of the predecessor learned men of Islam have ruled that Meelad Shareef is an action that is commended.

PROOF No. 23

HAZRAT SHAIKH Abubakr Bisouni Maliki (Allah’s Mercy upon him). Mufti of Makka, in attestation of Hazrat Shaikh Jamaal’s ruling, writes:

"I am informed of this question and whatever the Hanafite Mufti of Makka has clarified, is correct, and definitely in concurrence with the truth".

PROOF No. 24

In support of the fatwa, Hazrat Allama Muhammad Saeed Baseel (Allah’s Mercy upon him). Sha’fi Mufti of Makka Muazzamma, writes:

"To celebrate Moulood-un-Nabi is an innovation, however it is an excellent innovation because it comprises of kindness towards the poor, Qur’anic recitations, increased remembrance and Durrod Shareef, display of happiness and shows love for the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him). And all this is an extreme displeasure for the dirty hearted and hateful dishonourers of the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.) from among the astray, heretics, disbelievers and polytheists."

I also heard that the Day the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was born,  All the angels lined up from the Arsh to the Lap of Hazrat Amina (peace be upon her).  A brother from Dawat-e-Islami told me this.  I do believe that it happened, and all the Angles of Allah lined up for Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).  But I can't find any strong proof of that.  I would be highly thankful if you could provide me with some proof.

Celebration of the beloved Prophet Muhammad (saw)'s birthday

An loved act by Allah or not?

The celebration of the birthday of Allah's prophet Mohammed (saw) is undoubtedly obedience to Almighty Allah's commandment.

Almighty Allah said in the Holy Qur'an:

Say you, (O my beloved Prophet)
'only Allah's grace and only His mercy,
on it therefore let them rejoice. That is better than all their wealth.

Surah Younas 10 - Ayah 58

Almighty Allah ordered in the above mentioned verse to rejoice and express the happiness over His every grace and favour.

Ting king of the universe (saw) is undoubtedly His biggest grace and greatest favour.

Almighty Allah said in the Holy Qur'an:

Oh Prophet ! The Communicator of unseen news,
no doubt, We have sent you as a present beholder and bearer of glad tiding and a Warner.
And an inviter towards Allah be His command and a brightening sun.
And give glad tidings to the believers that for them is great bounty of Allah.

Surah Al-Ahzaab 33 Ayah 45 to 47

In the same way, Almighty Allah said in the Qur'an:

And We sent not you, but a mercy for all worlds.

Surah Al-Anbiyaa 21 Ayah 107

The Holy Qur'an Stated:

When Almighty Allah answered the supplication of Sayyidonaa Isaa and sent a heavenly meal for the children of Isra'iil. The followers of Sayyidonaa Isaa used to celebrate that day as festival.

Issa son of Maryam submitted, 'O Allah our Lord, 'send down to us a tray of food from the heaven so that it may be an occasion of rejoicing for us, for the first and the last of us and a sign from You.

Surah Al-Ma'idah 5 Ayah 114

We should think very honestly that if Christians celebrate the doy of heavenly meal as their Eid then why do the Muslims not celebrate the day as Eid in which Almighty Allah sent His biggest grace and greatest favour upon them.

Abu Lahb, uncle of the Prophet (saw) as well as a enemy of the beloved Prophet (saw) and he was a leader of the unbelievers. Almighty Allah revealed one full chapter in The Holy Qur'an to condemn his activities.

He had a slave girl. Her name was Thuwaibah. She was with Sayyidah Aaminah to serve her when she was in labour. The Holy Prophet was born. She ran towards Abu Lahb to give him glade tiding, Almighty Allah blessed your late bother Abdullah with a son. Abu Lahb heard the news of the birth of his orphan nephew. He became very happy. He pointed towards Thuwaiban and made her free.

Abu Lahb spent his whole life to oppose Islam.

- - - - -

"He passed away. His real brother Sayyidonaa Abbaas saw him in his dream. He was in horrible state. Abbaas asked, "Brother, How are you?" Abu Lahb replied, I did never see any good after leaving you. I just drink cold sweet water from my index finger due to releasing Thuwaibah.

Al-Shihh-Ul-Bukhaarii (Kitaab-Un-Nikaah 5101)

- - - - -

Shaikh Muhammad bin 'Abd ul Wahhaab wrote the reason of this favour to Abu Lahb (so if your a follower of Abd' ul Wahhaab and say its biddah you are clearly blind and mistaken or should I say you are the munafiqeen?)

Mukhtasr Siirat-Ur-Rasuul 13

That favour is upon him because he released his slave girl, Thuwaibah to express his joy over the birth of the Holy Prophet (saw).

Muhaddithinn remarked here,

Madaaarj-Un-Nubuwwah 19:2
Hujjatullah 'Al-Al-'alamiin 238
Haan-Ul-Maqsad 65,66
Mukhtasr Siirat-Ur-Rasuul 13

Abu Lahb, the worst enemy of Islam, expressed his joy on the birth of the Prophet (saw) as his nephew and Almighty Allah did not deprive him of His reward. So when a Muslim celebrates his birth believing him a Prophet (saw), what should be the favours of Almighty Allah upon him?

In the light of these evidences, it is necessity of faith that every Muslim should rejoice and express his happiness of the birth of the Prophet (saw). Islam never defined any specific way to express this happiness, thus any permissible way can be adopted on this occasion.

Undoubtedly, organising the procession, gathering of na'ts, parties and charitable works to express one's happiness on the birth of the Prophet are liked acts in Shariah.

Organising such gatherings remained as permanent costume of righteous past people in all ages.

Hasan-Ul-Maqsad 66
Shrh-Uz-Zurqaani 129:1
Al-Mowras-Ur-Rawii 12,13
Al Mowlad-Un-Nabavii 58
Al-Baa'ith 'Alaa Inkaar-Il-Bid'a 13
Subul-Ul-Hudaa 439:1
Al-Mawaahib-Ul-Ludunyah 27:1
Al-Fataawaa-Al-Hadiithiyyah 129
Tashiif-Ul-Aazaan 136
Maa Thabata Bisunnah 102
Al-Durruth-Thamiin 40
Fu-uuz-Ul-Haramain 80, 81
Faisalah Hafat Mas'alah 9
Fataawaa 'Abd-Ul-Hayy 283:2

Such gatherings, which are organised to express sincere love for the Prophet , are accepted in his court. The soul of the Prophet is pleased over them.

Shaah Wali Allaah Muhadith Dehlivi reported from his father Shaah 'Abd ur Rahiim.

I used to organise a good feast on the birthday of the Prophet every year. However once I could not manage a big feast and was only able to arrange some roasted chickpeas. I distributed these among the people over the happiness of the birth of Allah's messenger .

I saw the Prophet of the Almighty (Allah) in my dream. The distributed chickpeas were in front of him and he was very happy.

Al-Durruth-Thamiin 40

In the light of these evidences, it becomes clear that rejoicing over the birth of the Prophet is a liked act.
Still - Is the Prophet (saw)'s Birthday allowed to be celebrated?

As stated in the previous article, yes it is allowed to be celebrated; some people say that all birthdays are biddah (Innovation in belif). Were as Allah does not tell us how to pray etc. and when we can recite the Quran and be happy!

Eid-milad un-Nabi is not biddah and people whom celebrate it they should not go to extreme strengths and do haraam activities. People who say it is biddah tend to quote the hadith where it quotes innovations are biddah and state the Prophet never practised it nor the Sahabah. Our response to this is that our beloved Prophet did not do many things we and these people do.

Example 1

Trawee Salaat was not prayed in a formal gathering like we have now, then Hazrat Umar Farooq saw it and said:

Naima til uh biddah ua hazehe.

This means that this innovation is good just like the celebration of the Prophets birthday. So people who say the Prophets Birthday is biddah then think again because many of us read trawee salaat in a congregation.

In addition if Abu Lahb was rewarded for celebrating his nephew’s birth, why would we not be rewarded? As well as this Abu Lahb was kafir and his good deads were not multiplied but where as ours would be as we are the Ummah of Prophet Muhammad (saw)

Also by admiring Allah’s creations isn’t he going to be happy if we celebrate birthdays and make others happy e.g. our children?

Example

A father is always busy and one day of the year he is able to take it out for the family which is his son’s birthday, they all get together and have a family dinner.

I see nothing in Islam conflicting with the statement above; in addition this is directly not a religious issue and is not covered in Fiqh (Islamic Laws).

If anything is haraam it is always stated in Islam… please provide clear proof to prove something haraam! And the word "biddah" just does not mean innovation it means "innovation in belief" example:

A person says oh pakistanis dont understand arabic so lets do adhaan in urdu that would be biddah because its an innovation in belief.

Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi in the light of Quran & Ahadith.

Question:
Please give me the evidence about Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi in the light of Quran & Ahadith.

Ans.
Before writing the arguments of Eid Milad-un-Nabi (Allah's Grace & Peace be upon Him), I want to clear the meaning of Milad according to literature and Shariah.

The word Milad has been derived from "viladut" which means birth. Therefore, according to Arabic language, Milad is word which signifies the place and time of birth. In the light of Shariah, we means, Milad is to remember the events which took place at the birth time of the Holy Prophet (Allah's Grace & Peace be upon Him) and we get the opportunity of narrating the Seerat of the Prophet (Allah's Grace & Peace be upon Him) on this occasion, we also presents the Holy Prophet (Allah's Grace & Peace be upon Him) gifts of Durood -o- salam. We mention before the people attributes and praises of the Prophet (Allah's Grace & Peace be upon Him). We do not believe that Milad is specified with same night but, we believe that the remembrance of the Holy Prophet (Allah's Grace & Peace be upon Him) is incumbent in each minute and second of time and every Muslim should act it sunnahs in the whole life time. Milad un Nabi (Allah's Grace & Peace be upon Him) is a great source of preaching. It is incumbent for scholars to teach Muslims nations on this Holy occasion, moral behavior of the Holy Prophet, (Allah's Grace & Peace be upon Him) his antiquates, His affairs, His Seerat, His dealings and His worships.

Now I write the proofs of Milad from the Holy Quran, the hadith of the Prophet (Allah's Grace & Peace be upon Him) and consensus of Ulemas.

Evidence of the Holy Quran
The Qur’anic verses proves that to celebrate Milad is not only a proper deed but it is also a praiseworthy.

1) Allah Almighty says in Quran:

"The peace is on Him the day when he was born and the day when he will die and the day when he will be raised alive." (Kanzul Iman the translation of Holy Quran, Sura Al-Maryam, Verse 15)

In the above verse Allah Almighty has mentioned the complete Milad of Hazrat Yahya (Alaihis Salam). And before this Allah Almighty has mentioned the events which took place before the birth. It is the same way of celebrating birth day as Ahle Sunnat adopts for the Milad of the last Prophet (Allah's Grace & Peace be upon Him) of Allah Almighty. In other words the Prophet of Allah Almighty Hazrat Isa (Alaihis Salam) celebrates his own Milad.

2) As Allah Almighty says:

"And the same peace on me the day I was born and the day I will die and the day I would be raised alive."
(Kanzul Iman the translation of Holy Quran, Sura Al Maryam, Verse 33)

Before this verse Allah Almighty has stated the whole story of Maryam (Allah may pleased with him) that who she got pregnant and gave birth her great son, the Prophet of Allah Isa (Alaihi Salam). Allah Almighty also mentioned the words of Isa (Alaihis Salam) by which Isa (Alaihis Salam) praised himself. This style of narrating story is nothing but celebration of Milad of Isa Alaihis Salam. Ahle Sunnat also narrate the story of Holy Prophet Muhammad (Allah's Grace & Peace be upon Him) in the same style. We too narrate the events which took place before the birth and after it as Allah Almighty narrated about Yahya and Isa (Alaihimus Salam). Therefore, a person who has eyes of justice will obviously accept that to celebrate Milad is an important deed which Allah Almighty has done. So it proves that the basis of Milad is found in the Holy Quran.

3) Allah Almighty says:

"And remind them of the days of the Allah."
(Kanzul Iman the translation of Holy Quran, Sura Ibrahim, Verse5)

In this verse Allah Almighty orders his prophet Musa Alaihis Salam to remind his nation the days of Allah Almighty. "The days of Allah" are those days in which great events took place or Allah Almighty bestowed his great rewards to his creature. As the Holy Quran testifies this explanation of the days of Allah Almighty. In the Holy Quran Musa Alaihis Salam says:

"And when Musa said it his people remember Allah's favor upon you, when he delivered you from Firawn's people who used to afflict you worstly, and slaughter your sons and let your daughters live and in it there was shown great mercy of your lord." (Kanzul Iman the translation of Holy Quran, Sura Ibrahim, Verse 6)

According to the Qur’anic verse emancipation of the nation of Musa Alaihis Salam from Firawn is a day of Allah, so the birth day of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Allah's Grace & Peace be upon Him) is, with any doubt, also a day of Allah, because the Prophet Muhammad (Allah's Grace & Peace be upon Him) emancipated whole world from the darkness of ignorance and brought them to the light of guidance. Therefore, the birthday (Milad) of the Holy Prophet (Allah's Grace & Peace be upon Him) deserves to be celebrated then the celebration of any other event. In case we would not be grateful to Allah Almighty for his favor, which is Muhammad (Allah's Grace & Peace be upon Him). He will punish us severely. As Allah Almighty says:

"And remember when your lord proclaimed, if you will be great full then I shall give you more and if you’re thankless then my treatment is severe."
(Kanzul Iman the translation of Holy Quran, Sura Ibrahim, and Verse 7)

4) Allah Almighty says:
"Then remember the bounties of Allah and wander not in the earth spreading mischief."
(Kanzul Iman the translation of Holy Quran, Sura Araf, Verse 74)

In the above verse Allah Almighty orders us to remember his bounties and rewards. The last Prophet of Allah Almighty Muhammad (Allah's Grace & Peace be upon Him) is, undoubtedly, great blessing of Allah Almighty for whole mankind. Allah Almighty himself considers the Prophet (Allah's Grace and Peace be upon him) his great favor for mankind as He says:

"Undoubtedly, Allah did a great favor to the Muslims that in them from among themselves sent a messenger who recites unto them His signs and purifies them and teaches them the book and wisdom and necessarily before that they were certainly apparent error.
(Kanzul Iman the translation of Holy Quran, Sura Ale Imran, Verse 164)

Therefore, according to the Qur’anic commandments we must remember the beloved Prophet of Allah Muhammad (Allah's Grace & Peace be upon Him) and Milad-un-Nabi is a best way of remembrance of the greatest Prophet (Allah’s Grace and Peace be upon him).
In another words Allah Almighty says:

"And publicize well the favor of your lord"
(Kanzul Iman the translation of Holy Quran, Sura Al Duha, Verse 11)

The companion of the Holy Prophet (Allah’s Grace and Peace be upon him) Hazrat Abdullah Ibne Abbas (Allah is well pleased with Him) explained the word favors. He says here, In this verse favor signifies the prophet hood and Islam.
(Tafseer Ibne Abbas, Sure Al Duha, Page 651).

So in the light of the given explanation by the cousin of the Holy Prophet (Allah's Grace and Peace be upon him), we can say that Allah Almighty orders us to remember Holy Prophet (Allah's Grace and Peace be upon him) in our gatherings between the people, in our mosque between the worshiper and in our houses between our families and Milad un Nabi (Allah’s Grace and Peace be upon him), as I have written is a best way for this Qur’anic purpose.

4) Allah Almighty orders us:
"Say you oly Allah's grace and his mercy, on it therefore let them rejoice. That is better then all their wealth."

In this verse Allah Almighty orders us to enjoy on his grace and mercy. If we see around us we find that each favor of Allah Almighty is great mercy for us. Even our existence is also a mercy of Allah Almighty. But the greatest of Allah is the Holy Prophet (Allah's Grace and Peace be upon him). As Allah Almighty says:

"And we sent not you but mercy for all worlds."
(Kanzul Iman the translation of Holy Quran, Sura Al Ambiyaa, Verse 107)

So according the Qur’anic teachings it is necessary for us that ewe must be happy and pleased on the birthday of the Holy Prophet (Allah's Grace and Peace be upon him). The one who pleases with the Holy Prophet (Allah's Grace and Peace be upon him) is really a true follower of the Quran. And it is obvious that, in whole world Muslims celebrates Milad un Nabi (Allah's Grace and Peace be upon him). Specially for enjoying the mercy of Allah Almighty that is the beloved prophet of Allah Almighty (Allah's Grace and Peace be upon him)Therefore the Holy Quran itself confirms the Milad un Nabi (Allah's Grace and Peace be upon him)

5) The gathering of Milad un Nabi (Allah's Grace and Peace be upon him) incite Muslims on saying Durood and Salam ( to pray for prophet (Allah's Grace and Peace be upon him) of blessing and peace) Allah Almighty says:

"Oh you who I believe send upon Him blessing and salute Him fully well in abundance. (Kanzul Iman the translation of Holy Quran, Sura Al Ahzab, Verse 56)

According to the law of Shariah, a thing which is desired by Shariah, is exactly a like an aim of Shariah. And the benefits of Durood -o- salam are so much in numbers that can not be counted. Durood -o- salam causes for the help of Allah Almighty in this world and here after. So Milad un Nabi (Allah's Grace & Peace be upon Him) is a source of fulfilling the commandments of Allah Almighty

6) Allah Almighty says:

"And all that we narrate to you of the tidings of the messengers is for the purpose of strengthening your heart therewith." (Kanzul Iman the translation of Holy Quran, Sura Hood, Verse 121)

This Qur’anic verse reveals that the wisdom of mentioning the stories and events of Prophets (Alaihis salam) was to stand fast the heart of the last prophet (Allah's Grace and Peace be upon him). And it is obvious that we are, also today, in need of being stand fast. We must know that how; the prophet of Allah (Allah's Grace and Peace be upon him) faced the problems of his time so that we may face the problems of our times according to the Sunnah. Therefore Milad un Nabi (Allah's Grace and Peace be upon him) provides us an opportunity to know about the affair of the Prophet (Allah's Grace and Peace be upon him).

Evidence of Hadith (Narrations of the Holy Prophet (Allah's Grace and Peace be upon him)

There are many narrations, which proves the Milad Sharif but I write a few.

1) The Prophet of Allah (Allah’s Grace and Peace be upon him) himself stated his own birth from very beginning He says: "I had been transferred, continuously, from purified offspring to purified wombs. I had been given birth by a lawful marriage not by adultery. When Allah Almighty sent Adam Alaihis Salam on earth so He put me in his spine and then transferred in Nuh Alaihis salam in his boat, and then in Ibrahim Alaihis salam Allah Almighty transferred me continuously from noble offspring to the purified wombs up to that He brought me in my parents who never committed adultery."
(Tafseer Ruhul Bayan, Vol. 3, Page 54)

As I have written in the beginning that Milad means the time of birth or place of birth. So the Holy Prophet (Allah's Grace and Peace be upon him) himself celebrated his own Milad. In the same way Ahle Sunnat following the Holy Prophet (Allah's Grace and Peace be upon him)narrate the events of the birth of the Holy Prophet (Allah's Grace and Peace be upon him) .This hadith is the clear proof Milad un Nabi (Allah’s Grace and Peace be upon him) and as well as tell us that to celebrate Milad un Nabi (Allah's Grace and Peace be upon him) is not innovation (bidat) but it is a sunnah (tradition) of Prophet (Allah’s Grace and Peace be upon him).

There are many other narrations which narrate that the Prophet of Allah (Allah's Grace and Peace be upon him) celebrate his own Milad several times, some of those narrations have been written in Mishkat Sharif.

2) "The one who rejoices on the birth day of the Holy Prophet would not be severely punished and it is hopped that a Muslim who celebrate the Milad un Nabi (Allah's Grace and Peace be upon him), will not be punished in hell. Imam Bukhari Rahmatullah Alaih narrates that Abu Lahab would be punished lightly in the hell on Monday. Because he rejoiced and freed his handmaid indicating by his finger, when the Prophet of Allah Almighty (Allah's Grace and Peace be upon him) took birth. So as a reward of happiness on Milad un Nabi (Allah's Grace and Peace be upon him) he would be given water by his finger. (Saheehul Bukhari Vol. 2, Page 764)

Imam shams ud din Naseer Al Damaishqi narrates this hadith in poetry. Here is its translation.

If such kafir was denounced (in the Quran)
And perished are his hands, and in the flame is his eternal abode.
It is narrated every Monday.
His torment is made easy for his joy at the birth of Ahmad. (Allah's Grace and Peace be upon him)
What is the expectation then of a servant who spent all his life.
Happy with the arrival of Ahmad (Allah's Grace and Peace be upon him) and died on the one ness of Allah Almighty. (Haul-ul-Ahtifal Bil Mawlid Al-Nabvi Al Sharif, Page 11)

2) The Holy Prophet Muhammad (Allah's Grace and Peace be upon him) celebrated his own Milad by having fast. Imam Wali ud din write this narration with reference to the Saheeh Muslim. When the Prophet of Allah (Allah's Grace and Peace be upon him) was asked about the fast of Monday. He (Allah's Grace and Peace be upon him) said:

"I took birth and the Quran was revealed upon me in this day."
(Mishkat Sharif, Page 179)

This narration proves that to celebrate Milad un Nabi is a tradition of the Holy Prophet (Allah’s Grace and Peace be upon him) on every Monday. Secondly it is lawful to fix a particular day for Milad un Nabi (Allah's Grace and Peace be upon him). Thirdly it is an act of sunnah to worship in the pleasure of the Milad un Nabi (Allah's Grace and Peace be upon him)

Evidence of general consensus of Muslim ummah and scholars (Ulema)

1) Imam Al-Hafiz Al-Suyuti in his famous book "Al-Hawii Lil-Fatawii" allocated a special chapter on that topic and named it "The Excellence of Objective in Celebrating the Mawlid" where he said: The question under consideration is what the verdict of the Shari'ah on celebrating the Holy Birthday of the Noble Prophet (Allah's Grace & Peace be upon Him) during the month of Rabbi-ul-Awwal. From the point of view of Shari'ah is this a praiseworthy action or a blameworthy one? And do those who arrange such celebration Receive blessings or not? He said:

"The reply to this question is that in my view the Milad Shareef (Celebration of the Birthday of the Noble Prophet Allah's Grace & Peace be upon Him) is in fact such an occasion of happiness on which people assemble and recite the Holy Qu'ran to the extent that is easy. Then they relate the prophecies concerning the appearance of the Noble Prophet (Allah's Grace & Peace be upon Him) that have been transmitted in Ahadith and Author, and the miraculous events and signs that took place on his birth. Then food is set before them and according to their desire they partake thereof to satisfaction. This festival of celebrating the birthday of the Noble Prophet (Allah's Grace & Peace be upon Him) is a Bid'ah Hasanah (good Innovation) and those arranging it will get blessing, since in such a celebration is found the expression of joy and happiness at the greatness and eminence of the Noble Prophet (Allah's Grace & Peace be upon Him) and his birth".

Even Ibn Tay'miah said in his book "Necessity of the Right Path", p. 266, 5th line from the bottom of that page, published by Dar Al-Hadith, the following:

"As far as what people do during the Milad, either as a rival celebration to that which the Christian do during the time of Christ's birthday or as an expression of their love and admiration and a sign of praise for the Noble Prophet (Allah's Grace & Peace be upon Him), Allah Almighty will surely reward them for such Ijtihad". He then said: "Although Milad was not practiced by (Salaf), they should have done so since there was no objection against it from the Shari'ah point of view".
And we certainly only celebrate Milad out of love and admiration to the Prophet of all Mankind.

2. Imam Al-Hafiz Al-Qastalani, who gave commentary on Sahih Bukhari, said: "May Allah Almighty shower his Mercy upon a person who takes the days of the month of Rabbi-ul-Awwal, in which the Noble Prophet (Allah's Grace & Peace be upon Him) was born, as days of feast and celebration for doing so is the best cure for the heart of an ailing person."

3. Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar was asked, same reference of Imam Suyuti, about Milad Shareef. His reply was:

"Milad Shareef is, in fact, and innovation, which was not transmitted from any pious predecessor in the first three centuries. Nevertheless, both acts of virtue as well as acts of abomination are found in it (i.e. Sometimes acts of virtue are found therein and sometimes acts of abomination). If in the Milad Shareef only acts of virtue are done and acts of abomination are abstained from, then the Milad Shareef is a Bid'ah Hasanah (good innovation), otherwise not."
He then added "
"To do any virtuous act and to observe it annually as means of recollection for any special day on which Allah Almighty has bestowed any favor or removed any calamity is a form of showing gratitude to Allah Almighty. Gratitude to Allah Almighty is expressed through different kinds of Ibaadah (worship) -prostration and standing in prayer, charity and recitation of the Holy Qu'ran. And what is a greater favor from Allah Almighty can there be than the appearance of the Prophet of Mercy (Allah's Grace & Peace be upon Him) on this day (i.e. 12th of Rabbi-ul-Awwal)?" Some people do not limit it and celebrate the Milad Shareef on any day of Rabbi-ul-Awwal. Nay, some people have extended it even more and increased the period to the whole year. According to the latter, the Milad Shareef can be celebrated on any day of the year. The objective here is the same, i.e. to rejoice at and celebrate the Holy Birth of the Noble Prophet (Allah's Grace & Peace be upon Him).

4. Imam Abu-Bakr Abdullah Al-Dimashqi compiled a number of books on the subject and called them "Collection of Traditions on the Birth of the Chosen Prophet", "The Pure Expression on the Birthday of the Best of Creations" and "The Spring for the Thirsty One on the Birth of the Rightly Guided".

5. Imam Al-Hafiz Al-Iraqi wrote a book and called it "The Pure Spring on the Sublime Birth".

6. Imam Ibn Dahyah wrote a book and called it "Enlightenment on the Birthday of the Bearer of Good News, The Warner".

7. Imam Mulla Ali Qari wrote a book and called it "The Quenching Spring on the Birthday of the Prophet". (Allah's Grace & Peace be upon Him)

8. Imam Shams ul-Din bin Naseer Al-Dimashqi, said in his book: "The Spring for the Thirsty One on the Birth of the Rightly Guided" about the story of Abu Lahab that he will receive a light punishment every Monday for expressing joy at the birth of the Noble Prophet (Allah's Grace & Peace be upon him) on that day. The Imam said the following verse of poetry, the translation is: If such Kafir was denounced in the (Qur'an) and perished are his hands, and in the Flames is his eternal abode It is narrated that every Monday.
His torment is made easy for his Joy at the Birth of Ahmad What is the expectation then of a servant who spent all his life Happy with the Arrival of Ahmad (Allah's Grace & Peace be upon Him) and died on the Oneness of Allah.

9. Imam Shams Ul-Din Ibn aL-Jazri, the Imam of reciters, wrote a book and named it "The Scent of Notification on the Blessed Birthday".

10. Imam Al-Hafiz Ibn Al-Jawzi said in the description of Milad: "Peace and Tranquility takes over during that year and a good glad tiding to obtain your wish and inspiration".

11. Imam Abu-Shamah, The Sheik of Al Hafiz Al Nawawi, said:

"The best of the innovations of our times is what is carried out on the day of corresponding to the birthday of our Beloved Prophet (Allah's Grace & Peace be upon Him), where people give out donations, practice what is right, express their joy and happiness, in doing so is surely a sign of love and admiration for the Prophet (Allah's Grace & Peace be upon him)".

I suggest all my sunni brothers and sisters to disregard this new wahabi called AHB who has ventured into our space. I request that all the same all propaganda printed above to which I am replying be deleted as we have heard it many times and it is completely wrong and wahabi/salafi/deobandi in nature. AHB this is not a salafi/wahabi/deobandi site but a sunni sufi one, so be careful.
