as-salamu alaikum shaikh sayyid al-ninowy,
I understand that the Asharis have mentioned that Allah's uncreated Speech does not consist of letters and sound and that this is from the creation of almighty Allah [as it is clearly time dependent].
The pseudo-salafis in an effort to trap the Asharis, however, respond with the question: "Who said Alif Laam Meem?"
Could you please elaborate on what the correct response of the Ashari scholars of Kalam would be. Would they say anything other than what every one else would say without second thought - namely : Allah said Alif Laam Meem. Would this response be heretical to the Asharis as the pseudo-salafis claim?
Could you please also outline the difference between the Hanbalis and the Asharis on this issue. Was Ibn Qudama mistaken about the Ashari belief regarding the Qur'an?
Jazakallahu khairan respected shaikh.
