Spirit Of Islam: Don't Expect Anything From Me - Spirit Of Islam

I was reading someone’s status on a social networking website “don't expect anything from me because i dont expect anything from anyone and i wasn’t born to live up to your expectations”.

It’s not being straightforward; it is so rude to say it in this way. I don’t know in what circumstances this person went through but some expectations are essential. Expectations are necessary like mother’s milk and expectation are not only financial (and I don’t think people expect it from everyone) but moral and emotional expectations cannot be denied.

When we are down or going through some hard times, we expect someone to be with us, doesn’t matter if they cannot help or support us but they should be with us. How pleasant it is to be with your beloved ones in such terrible times....but unfortunately in today’s culture, when you are at ease, in a good social and economical state, they are all around you but when you are unemployed, broke and miserable, you are alone, they will all vanish away.

If you feel all alone and the world has turned its back on you. During this tough time you will definitely miss the presences of your family or friends but don’t blame them of being selfish or materialistic, just give them a benefit of doubt that they were not able to meet your expectations (don’t get mad). And get used to being on your own and stop expecting from others. Not to isolate yourself from the rest of the world but stop expecting too much from others to save yourself from disappointment because sometimes when expectations are not fulfilled, its gives too much pain.

But if you think people expect something from you and you can meet their needs and expectations then without wasting a minute reach out to them, if you can. Open you arms with love and affection for everyone (unconditionally) without considering their race, color, religion, language, behavior or attitude towards you.

Sheikh Saab well said. A selfish society will only work and help themselves.

Wonderfully, put and let me quote a few words in honour:

Baal chiragh ishq da mera roshan kardey seenaa,
Dil dey deevay dee rushnaee jawey wich zameenaan.

O God! kindle the lamp of Ishq (true love) and enlighten my heart,
Let the light of my heart spread all over the earth.

Thanks for posting this verse from Hazrat Mian Sahib's kalam.
A recent Urdu poet (Prof. Waseem Barelvi) has said something similar....

Jahan rahega vaheen roshni lutaega
kisi chirag ka apna makaan nahin hota

Beautiful message... be humane with the creation of Allah.

Yes, one must try to meet expectations of others...but should also try not to burden others with one's expectations. :)
