It's funny how we're trained to defend our believes yet we don't even know why they're there in the first place to begin with. It's so easy for many to get hyped up over the status of Quran and how it is the ultimate book of guidance yet they haven't even bothered opening or knowing what it contains for their entire life. Why is it that I have seen the very ethics and moral guidelines it contains being brushed under the carpet whilst the Book itself has become part of our daily rituals ! You'll see it being lifted above the bride's head during the depart ('ruksati') or being used for tabaruk but behind all of this the message seems lost and often confused with.
In one of the debates this academic year, I couldn't stop but pondering myself over one of the arguments an atheist scholar made on how we muslims tend to believe that this 'Quran' is the ultimate book and that where things tend to go wrong with out thinking. Fair enough he had his shot at things but if we we look into ourselves than one might realize how we sometimes stop ourselves from venturing beyond our horizons and instead take things the way it is, and equally take them for granted. Thus, in a nutshell we become nothing more than mindless zombies who would find it hard to please themselves with anything in this world let alone please and be content with the Almighty.
Indeed, the truth in the message is not what I'm questioning at the moment but our constant 'obsession' with how we're always right when we even don't know what the truth holds and how to measure it ! A bit of assertiveness can make you progress in life and make everyone think "oh wow this person is so confident in his/her shoes" but that doesn't mean anything taking into account that it's your loss and not theirs. It's best to carefully tread in the path, specially when one's destination is the pleasure of Allah and thus, in my opinion, something not to be taken lightly. The biggest issue is the state of heedlessness we have programmed ourself into and as such our brains have reduced to nothing but size of peanuts. As I read this somewhere, "You know more than you think you know, and you know less than what you can know".
To wrap it up, life is one of the greatest blessing and you only live once ! Make the most of it by becoming the light of tomorrow. Don't just take take things when the're served on a golden plate with a golden spoon for you because than you'll never understand it's true essence. Instead, strive hard to attain it to your full potential so the sweat of your exertions brings about a greater difference in your personality. May Allah show us the doors to His everlasting beauty and help us to attain the ranks of As-saliheen. Ameen thumma ameen

Why Do We Believe In What We Believe In ?on May 01 2011 08:17 PM

when you watch the news and something comes up about burning of the Quran, yes muslims have a right to get anrgy, but the ones you see going crazy and burning american flags and whatnot are normally the type of muslims who know zilch about the real essence of islam and the ones who just pray their jummah prayer and percieve themselves as pious and holier than thou.
Unfortunately muslims have become all-talk but no-action. Islam isn't about the amount of knowledge one has it's about applying this knowledge or even an ounce of knowledge to your everyday life.
As they say 'actions speak louder than words'
