salamThe jizya for dhimmis is used often by the right wing to state and prove that islam condemns non muslims to second class citizrens. I would like ti know if this jizya is means tested or is it a single payment due from evEry non muslim Under the protection of muslims. i.e. ISthe jizya charged in proportion to an individuals income, status etc. SAJID

The anti-islamicts fail to tell their ignorant followers that Muslims also had to pay a tax called the Zakah, which was incidentally HIGHER than the Jizya that the non-Muslims had to pay.
Moreover, only males were eligable for the Jizya whereas male and female Muslims had to pay the Zakah. Even so, there were categories of Non-Muslim males who were not eligible such as monks and priests and all those who were not able to engage in battle to begin with, such as the elderly and disabled folk.
The non-Muslims could forfeit the Jizya under many Islamic rulers if they agreed to fight alongside the Muslims in case of war, and this has been documented in history.

Salaam
In uk under law,a working person has to pay tax,and if they dont, then get get locked up.
If anyone throws this question upon the muslims, then ask them to why they tax muslims in a non muslim country?
Muslims have to pay zaka, which is more then jizya and if they think this is unfair then let them arise this rule upon the muslims and have them pay less tax .
Islam is not just a religion, but its a way of life so such laws have to comply.
the only people that think about this question are those who dont think that religion is not as important so it does not need such laws, but they dont question that own policies.

please be kind enough to list/ report the documented history you refer to.
Sir Thomas Arnold gives a specific example regarding the tribe of al-Jurajimah, a Christian tribe, who were exempt altogether as they agreed to fight alongside the Muslims in case of war.

Poor non muslims(those who could not afford it)were also exempt.
