It's a shame that some of the very young generation watch Noor tv and say,

'oh why is he kissing his hand for he is only a man?'

my gut instict tells me to get up and throttle the young child!!! But my head says calm down girl use your intelligence,

I then reply, Do you love Manchester United?  Do you IDOLIZE Micheal Jackson, or whatever black rapper who swears like there no tommroow?

They reply yes.

I ask why?

They reply, oh he sings the best, he plays the best, his life is dedicated to songs, or football, he is the best in football, and we love to follow his gigs, his concerts and his football matches.

This is it clear then, you idolize this sataan who is making the satan happy by singing and dancing, then why is it so wrong when we LOVE and respect a pious man who has dedicated his life to humanity and to Allah SWT and to our beloved Muhammed SAW?

This pious man is not only our guidance onto the right path and to namaz, but it is said that whoever you love in this world it is with that person you shall wake up in the next!!

So waking up next to Micheal Jackson in the next world will not help you in any shape or form!

But an intercession from a pious Allah wali, can be the difference of hell and heaven.

Hope I haven't offended anyone, whatever is wrong it is from me, whatever is good it is from Allah SWT.

Jazakallah Kheir

I don't care whether they are called pirs, shaykhs, saints, Imams, whatever.

If somebody is very learned in Islamic sciences (i.e. I know where they have studied) and follows the shari'ah to the dot (as far as one can be aware) and doesn't do ANYTHING outside the bounds of Islam (although we all make mistakes, that's different) then I will go and seek knowledge from them.

Now if somebody calls themselves a pir, or a shaykh, or something...then I become doubtful. If someone introduces themself as Pir so-and-so, then you wonder whether their intentions are correct. A true student of knowledge would be humble in all regards and this is something I look for in a true teacher, a true shaykh, or whatever you want to call them. Also, if they take money...then again, I question their intention. WITH THE EXCEPTION OF private lessons, because time is money, that's a fact. Teachers in schools are paid, so should our Imams be.

So you can't judge a person until you have met them and know a little about them. You can't just say all of them are fraudsters or whatever.

Salam, Sister I know these days ''pirs'' can be quite dodgy and fraudy. But they still help you to get closer to Allah. I remember a speech by Mufti Akmal Shaib and he said that to get closer to Allah you need to go through stages meaning go through people. Righteous people. People who are closer to Allah.

Salaam,

there are frauds and fakes in all walks of life. Real and fake doctors, real and fake minicab drivers, builders, plumbers the list goes on..We should also rememeber that a Pir is not above a Ghawth or above a Prophet. And people have even made claim to these titles so I dont see how the title of Pir is free from hijack. It is interesting to note also that since Peeri Mureedi became more common amongst ghair Syeds, the frauds crept in. When it remained LARGELY in the household of Rasoolallah (saaw) it kept alot of fraudsters out.

I would like to know the significance of a Pir in our life? Why should we go to them? When does it become Shirk? How dow we recognize a real Pir?

lol funny, sorry.

A Peer is a spiritual guide who supports you in your journey for knowledge in Islam-therefore, their role is very significant; as they are learned people, more learned than people on this group - therefore, if you had any islamic questions like the one you just raised on this group-you can go directly to someone who is educated and knowledgable in Islam to give you the right answer.

Shirk means associating partners with Allah swt - so it becomes shirk when you start associating your Peer with Allah swt (which we do not do).

How do we recognise a real peer? lol - use your head.....you do not usually make someone your Peer on first meeting; you would meet them on a number of occasions and have a spiritual bond with them. You will know when the Peer is right for you.

I guess world is full of honest and good people and there is no need to  differentiate good from bad. I have not seen a Pir that fits your definition of a Pir. All Pirs that I have seen or heard of are not what you say they should be. Of course they would not show their real intentions to you.
