Salaam, I'm wondering if you guys heard about a teenage boy who was sheltering under a tree from the thunder storms on Saturday in Small Heath Park, Birmingham, and was struck by lightning and died a couple of days later.

I was at his funeral yesterday at Ghamkol Sharif Masjid, it was very sad to hear about things like this especially when I found out he was only 17. I got to see the boys face after the janazah. Just shows we can't take things for granted, may we take heed from this tragic incident. Inna Lillah Wa Inna Ilayhi Rajioon, may Allah grant this boy Jannah tul Firdos and give his family patience. Ameen.

This report is from a few days earlier (scroll down to see the video report) http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/west_midlands/8123053.stm

P.S. would the brother be considered a shaheed for dieing in this manner?

Yes, hukmi shahadat.

inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'oon. I heard about this on the news but at the time he was still alive in hospital. This is is the power of nature in case we forgot. Secondly, remember that death can take you at any time. We should all pray for the boy and pray that Allah gives his family sabr.

salams,

Inna Lillah Wa Inna Ilayhi Rajioon, may Allah grant this boy Jannah tul Firdos and give his family patience. Ameen.

Inshallah may ALLAH replace his good soul with something even more dutiful for his parents, inshallah - theres a dua, an ayat in the QURAN (i think its when one of the Prophets were tested with their imaan, where shaitan was given powers from ALLAH S.W.A to do all he [shaitan] can do, to test the Prophets faith - one of the things shaitan done was take the soul of their [A.S] children) after when shaitan could harm no more and gave up, the Prophet A.S made a supplication to ALLAH S.W.A asking for help and patience and in return ALLAH S.W.A replaced everything the Prophet A.S had with even better things.  if people on here know what im talking about please make that dua [read that ayat] as a wasila for his (departed souls) parents.  JazakALLAH.  (Im not sure but i think the pegambur who were tested were AYYUB A.S.)

Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un

On another note - everybody should be aware of thunderstorm procedures.

Do NOT take this lightly.

Don't go under trees, don't use umbrellas, cars are safe I'm sure, and avoid open fields. Any others know any other advice?

salams,

i was talking to one of my kurdish freinds on tuesday evening (who's claimed asylum in the uk citing if he ever went back to kurdistan he would have his ears chopped off by saddam hussein)  about the lightning and the thunderstorms that happened in liverpool on monday night/tuesday morning  he was saying how scared he was (out of my ignorance) i started laughing at him, he then explained to me that even the Angels get scarred when lightning strikes and its recommended to read some ayats from the QURAN. tho i dont remember which AYATS they are, if im correct he started to read surah ZILZALAH as i could hear him say "Surah ZILZALAH"

Salaam,

Indeed very sad news. Alhamdu-Lillah I was able to attend the burial at Handsworth Cementry on Thursday at 5pm. It was a very emotional scene.

I hope and pray that all his friends and family members who were their make it a habit to visit Junaid on a regular basis.

Yes, I read this in the paper the other day.  Very haunting how death can overtake you when you least expect it.

Recently, they discovered that when lightening strikes, there's aftershocks that spread in the opposite direction and it sends balls of electricity through the sky. This phenomena has been only observed by the naked eye and not with any recording devices.

I can't remember why they said this is an amazing discovery
