The purpose of Islam, is it is a way of life which tries to control the chaotic nature of insaan and temper his fragmentation to try and reflect order similar to the that which can be seen in the universe.

Peace. Love. Tranquilty. Islam is the way of our beloved Muhammad SallLallahuWaliWaasalam who taught man to be a good citizen in the court of ALLAH and in the eyes of his neighbour.

Asalamo alaikum wa rehmatullahi wa barakatuhu!

I hope you are all well inshaAllah azwajal.

Ok, my question is if you were approached by a non- mulsim, how would you summarise Islam?

What would you say? what would you include in your summary and what would you deem to be of less significance in the summary?

My challenge for you to is to have a go - try and make it both precise and conscise.

p.s. A sensible mind would realise that the task at hand isn't as easy at it seems at face value.

Islam is a religion of love, of the heart, of trust, of surrender. It is richness and beauty and delight. It is lived through the heart, practiced with the body.Islam is all around you, for it is not a creation, but a revelation. It lives in the hearts of all men and women - there is no reality but reality, there is no God but God. Witnessing and living the implications of this truth is Islam. The Prophet(pbuh) of Islam brought this to truth to the people. In simple words its a religion where it is practised by us humans and rewarded by the Almighty.

 Glorious Quraan (16:125)

"Invite (All) to the way of thy lord with wisdom and beautiful preaching; and argue with them in ways that are best and most gracious"

To know what Islam really means, you have to experience your own path to the Divine.

Alom (14.05.2009) Bit busy at the moment but inshaAllah later own ill give you a definite response to your question, its a brothers promise.

Yeh I know it’s late but hey you know as they say it’s better late then never.  But seriously I thought Bro KTL summarised it quite beautifully and exceptionally that it didn’t required any further inputs from me, but recently I have been getting harassed by a certain brother of ours who is demanding me to fulfil the promise I made to my sis Samrah, so with that said this is for both of you.

To be honest with you all I really don’t know what I would say, I guess for me personally it would be kind of go with the moment thing, so depending on the situation and depending on who is asking the question and for what purpose my answer would vary.  You really cannot no matter how much you try summarise Islam with few only words.  It would be like saying oh there’s a sun, planets that orbits the sun, and oh there is the moon too which orbits the planet and that is my summary of the universe, when we know that this information is only compared to a single percentage.

Same thing with Islam, me and you have been living Islam for all our lives and yet we are still learning so how on earth can we summarise it to someone who has no idea of Islam at all to begin with..

If I was too make a brainstorm with Islam as my centre point, then I would come up with criterions like freedom, knowledge, discipline, art etc. you can literally write a whole chapter no even a book on such criterion compared to Islam, so again it is impossible to summarise it with only few words.

However I would say that the core of Islam is knowledge and if one is to learn the fundamental knowledge of Islam then they must be prepared to dive back in time to uncover that truth because our current society have either forgotten it or clouded by western influence.  To seek these truths one must meditate themselves to books of wisdom, challenge themselves to go and visit the wonders of Islamic architectures that we have left behind, only through with eyes unclouded would they be able to perceive the true meaning of Islam.

On second thought I just might say all that which I just wrote.:D

Edit:  Also one must be prepared for critics that are probably going to come in ones way when one indulges themselves in a discussion with a non Muslim weather it is a formal friendly chat or a debate.  For example if I was suppose to say that Islam is peace then I must be prepared to provide the proofs if necessary, again if I say Islam is about tolerance then the non Muslim might turn around and say ok hold up but you Muslims convert people with your swords, so you must be mentally ready to counter that if it ever rises up because if you don’t then it will be you who would be left puzzled and felt disappointed.

Salaam everyone

I know i am not able to do so but i would like to try

Ummmmmm i think if i meet with some non muslim people then i would summariza islam in following way

I will tell the meaning of islam that is Islam is made of three words

Salamti: one should not hurt anyone with hands and even with tongue

Aman and: Islam is the religion of peace, love and mersy

ehsaan: ehsaan here is referred to husn-e-akhlaq, soft spoken, soft hearted and helping hands for everyone be it a muslim or non muslim.

and a muslim believes in five things i.e

Allah

Quran(which was reveled on our Beloved Prophet SAW(peace be upon him))

Angels

Jins

and one more thing is there that i forget, there must be someone who could tell the fifth point

well brothers and sister thats what i know about islam

Assalamu alaikum, since you were so eager for my comments I wonder where should I start from sister.

If I am too generous I would have given you 'D' for your points, since you have even forgotten the basics of Islam.... tsk tsk tsk ;)

The 5 Pillars of Faith are:
-Believe in Allah
-Believe in the Messengers of Allah (ie all the Prophets)
-Believe in the Books of Allah (ie all the books)
-Believe in the Angels
-Believe in the Day of Judgement

The last belief is something which people have forgotten completely, ie they would be accounted for their actions. I am not taunting you, just showing you a picture from your own post sister, don't get me wrong. Even we say we believe in the last day, our actions have become quite the opposite of what is required from us.

I had no knowledge of bowing (Ruku). What did I know about prostration? Was I in search of your footprints or was I prostrating in prayer..Strange is my life and my servitude

Wherever I found your footprints I made it my direction

Adhrikni Ya RasoolAllah (sallalahu alaihi wasalam)
