However, the cases of the Akmal brothers and Shahid Afridi are more clear-cut.

The Akmals were fined for their behaviour after the Sydney Test.

Wicketkeeper Kamran, 28, insisted publicly he would be selected in the run-up to the third Test after being dropped from the side. Younger brother Umar, 19, was alleged to have feigned an injury to skip the Test in protest, though he did eventually play.

Afridi, 30, was punished for the bizarre incident in the Perth one-day international, when as a stand-in captain of the side, he bit the ball in a novel approach to the banned art of ball-tampering. The early indications were that one of them, fast bowler Rana Naved, would appeal.

"I want to know what I did wrong," he said. "I will be consulting with my people before deciding a future line of action."

Rashid Latif, another former captain, expected those most harshly treated to win their cases.

"You can't hand out such severe punishments to players of the calibre of Yousuf and Younus Khan," Latif said.

Inzamam-ul-Haq, yet another former captain and no stranger to controversy himself, was also scathing of the decision.

"Why was action not taken earlier against these players?" he asked. "Why did the board keep quiet for so long when the team was on tour?"

The decisions mean Pakistan will be bringing a hugely inexperienced side to England for their three-month summer tour, which features two Tests against Australia, four against Andrew Strauss's men and a string of one-day and Twenty20 internationals.

But the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) say they do not believe the absence of star names will have a negative effect on attendances.

ECB spokesman Andrew Walpole told BBC Sport: "We will continue to monitor the situation but we remain confident that the Pakistan team will continue to generate huge support this summer."

turkey earthquake - the pakistani relationship

salams all,

a turkish freind of mine, the village/area his from in turkey was struck by an eartquake on monday the 8th march 2010 fortunately for him and his family they are all here in the uk, but unfortunately he lost a couple of his relatives in the quake (i understand 90+ people passed away in that area altogether) there were a few things he said to me which kind of struck me. whilst talking about earthquakes he told me that how upset his villagers were when the earthquake hit pakistan in 2005 (a national televised help was broadcasted by their prime minister asking the people of turkey to help the people of pakistan his words were roughly along the lines "let us help our brothers and sisters of pakistan and let us, let them know that they are our brothers and sisters and we will not forget them and do whatever we can to help" the prime ministers plea was met with a huge response in all of turkey, huge huge response) along with this response the people of this same village responded - they the villagers, mothers, wives, sisters, daughters responded by donating their gold jewellery for the victims of pakistan earthquake. one of the ladies who gave her belongings was his wife he said, he said the villagers were really upset.

since there are alot of members on here (from around the world and pakistan itself) who are from pakistan, who's origins are pakistani/kashmiri (even those who are not pakistani or are not from pakistan) let us remember our brothers and sisters of turkey who have overcome this grief in our dua's and if there are any collections on Jummah in masjids around the world, let ALLAH SWT give us the taufiq to give that little extra, Insh'ALLAH. may we help and try to ease the pains of those who helped our muslim brothers and sisters yesterday - (today, tomorow and in the future to the best of our individual abilities Insh'ALLAH, Ameen)

turkey and pakistan have always had some deep relationship, Mash'ALLAH

may we remember death before we go to sleep, Insh'ALLAH

Sheikh Tantawi head of al Azhar passes away aged 81

Cairo/Riyadh – Sheikh Mohamed Sayyed Tantawi, Grand Sheikh of Cairo's al-Azhar and one of the leading authorities of Sunni Islam, died Wednesday in Saudi Arabia aged 81, the Egyptian embassy in Riyadh has confirmed.
His body is to be buried in the Saudi city of Medina, the burial place of the Prophet Mohammed
Tantawi, born on October 28, 1928, was appointed Grand Mufti of Egypt in 1986. He held this position until he was appointed Grand Sheikh of al-Azhar Mosque and University in 1996.
Al-Azhar University and mosque in central Cairo was founded in the tenth centry, and counts as the premier seat of learning in Sunni Islam. The position of Grand Sheikh holds considerable international influence in religious affairs.
Mohamed Wasel, Sheikh Tantawi's deputy, is expected to take over leading the institution temporarily until Egyptian president Hosny Mubarak appoints a new head.
Several of Tantawi's decisions in his time in the post caused controversy, as well as the fact that as it is appointed by the president, Tantawi was seen as part of the Egyptian regime. He was even dubbed the 'government's Sheikh' by critics of the government.

Saddam

was saddam of iraq a sinner?

did he try to bulldoze Hazrat Imam Hussain Alaysalam's Roza Mubarak

did he kill more than 100 of are Shia Muslim brothers

did he kill 3000 kurds

why did he do such crimes if he did commit them

He was an Israeli puppet was he or not?

Al Azhar Imam Tantawi dies in Riyadh

Riyadh: Mohammad Sayed Tantawi, the Grand Imam of Cairo’s Al Azhar Mosque and the Grand Shaikh of Al Azhar University, died Wednesday of a heart attack, while on a visit to Saudi Arabia.

Witnesses told Gulf News that Tantawi collapsed at the Riyadh International Airport as he was about to board his flight back to Cairo on Wednesday.

He was rushed to the Emir Sultan hospital in Riyadh where doctors proclaimed him dead.

The official Mena news agency reported that Tantawi, 81, was in Riyadh to attend the King Faisal awards ceremony.

Tantawi will be buried in Madinah, according to his family.

Abdullah Al Naggar, advisor to the shaikh, told Egypt's Nile News television the death was a surprise, saying that before leaving to Saudi Arabia the shaikh had seemed in "excellent shape and health."

A member of Tantawi's office, Ashraf Hassan, told a news agency that Mohammad Wasel, Tantawi's deputy, was expected to temporarily take over leading the institution until the Egyptian president appointed a new head for the body.

Born on October 28, 1928, Tantawi was appointed the Grand Mufti of Egypt in 1986.

He held the position for almost 10 years, until he was appointed Grand Imam of Al Azhar Mosque and Grand Shaikh of Al Azhar University, the highest seat of Sunni learning, by Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak in 1996.

Al Azhar has schools, universities and other educational institutions across Egypt.

Tantawi’s views on a wide range of subjects, such as the Islamic veil in France, abortion, suicide bombings and women imams, often created controversies.

Late last year, Tantawi caused a big stir in Egypt, a predominantly Muslim country, when he banned the niqab (a full-face veil) at woman-only institutions of Al Azhar, which is one of the Sunni world’s most influential seats of learning.

At the time, Tantawi said that the niqab “is a traditional costume, which has nothing to do with Islam”.

A few weeks later, a similar ban was imposed by authorities at Egypt’s public universities, much to the protest of Islamists and human rights activists.

Two years ago, Tantawi, often criticised as a pro-government cleric, came under fire in Egypt when he was shown in pictures shaking hands with Israeli President Shimon Peres at a conference on inter-faith dialogue in Geneva.

An embattled Tantawi said he had not recognised Peres.

Egypt was the first Arab country to sign a peace treaty with Israel in 1979. But anti-Israel feelings run high in the Arab world’s most populous country.

In 1997, he lent his blessings to a controversial campaign launched by the Egyptian authorities against female genital mutilation. He said the centuries-old practice was un-Islamic.

“The Ulema (theologians) of Islam are unanimous in agreeing that female circumcision has nothing to do with Islam,” he was quoted as saying.

In 2001, he drew massive criticisms for condemning suicide bombings as being against Islam. His fatwa was declared as the Palestinians were engaged in their intifada against Israeli occupiers, much to support from many Egyptians.

In December 2003, Tantawi angered many Muslims when he said that the French government had the right to ban the hijab (a headscarf worn by Muslim women) in schools.

Tantawi was no stranger to controversy as Grand Mufti of Egypt either. He issued a contentious fatwa (a religious edict) ruling that the interest rates offered by banks to depositors comply with the Islamic Sharia (law)

Tantawi led the prayers at the funeral of Palestinian icon Yasser Arafat in 2004.

http://gulfnews.com/news/gulf/saudi-arabia/al-azhar-chief-tantawi-dies-in-riyadh-1.594696

What is the min Mahr that can be given to the wife?

Salaam. When is the Mahr usually given? is it at the time of Nikah or after or before?

Another question i have is i understand having a walima is Sunnah but if the couple are low on money can the Walima be done on the same day as the Nikah as I have read in some places that this is okay? For example have Nikah done then do Walima (food given) straight after?

Any advice would be helpful. Beam of light replaces Islamic call to prayer in Marseille, France...

MARSEILLE, France — The minaret of the new Grand Mosque of Marseille, whose cornerstone will be laid here in April, will be silent — no muezzin, live or recorded, will disturb the neighborhood with the call to prayer. Instead, the minaret will flash a beam of light for a couple of minutes, five times a day.

Normally, the light would be green, for the color of Islam. But Marseille is a port, and green is reserved for signals to ships at sea. Red? No, the firefighters have reserved red.

Instead, said Noureddine Cheikh, the head of the Marseille Mosque Association, the light will almost surely be purple — a rather nightclubby look for such an elegant building.

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/12/28/world/europe/28marseille.html?_r=1

...I don't believe this...

Maoist threat to attack cities shakes Delhi

Cracks are showing in Bharat “aka India”. Local ethnic leaders want to create 50 states which would exist in varying degrees of independence from Delhi. If Delhi refuses to allow the 50 states, the new states will inevitably turn to violence. Most Bharati states already face some sort of insurrection. More than 200 Bharati districts face violence and terror–Delhi faced about 10,000 events which were violent–all from internal militants. In addition there is pressure from Assamese secessionists, Maharashtra xenophobes, Gujarat genocide, Kashmiri militants, and religious strife. Bharat’s potential.

The Maoists have now taken things in their own hands. “POlitical power grows out the barrel of a gun” said Mao Zedung. Can Delhi take back 40% of ‘India’ from the Naxals?

The Times of India report is typical of the problems faced by Delhi.

SOMEWHERE ON THE BENGAL-JHARKHAND BORDER: The Maoists are now training their guns on big cities and Kolkata and Bhubaneswar could be among their next targets if the government does not announce talks immediately, a senior commander has warned.

The threat came from CPI (Maoist) politburo member and military commander Koteswar Rao, alias Kishanji. He served the government with an ultimatum from his jungle hideout on Saturday, threatening to strike cities and towns if it rejected their offer of talks.

Chief ministers Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee and Naveen Patnaik — in Kolkata and Bhubaneswar respectively — have been insisting that operations against the Maoists be stepped up.

Kishanji put Jharkhand chief minister Shibu Soren in a different bracket. “He comes from a tribal family and understands their problems. We will confront him only when he acts adversely,” the Maoist leader said. He also endorsed Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar’s demand that a major share of mining income should be spent in the area instead of being sent to Delhi. Talk or we’ll attack cities, Kishanji warns Centre, Sukumar Mahato, TNN, Mar 7, 2010, 12.47am IST

The poor of India, the Dalits, the scheduled classes, the Christians, the Naxalites and the Muslims left behind the onward march towards…march towards what? I gave my cell number to the media and kept it open for three hours on February 25 waiting for the government to call me. None of the officials called me.”

But many caution that the Maoists are not sincere about talks and will use the truce as an opportunity to regroup and re-arm themselves.

And as proof, they point out that although Kishanji gave a ceasefire call on February 23, there was no let up in Maoist attacks. Kishanji blamed government for not honouring the truce call, saying forces went ahead with their operations and killed Lalmohan Tudu, leader of People’s Committee against Police Atrocities.

The Maoists will not take it lying down, he asserted. “We will intensify our strikes if government does not initiate talks. If it is, it does not necessarily mean Wahabism sect itself has anything to do with Terrorism or does it, because if it does or even if a little of Wahabism sect has anything to do with terrorism, does that mean its a terrorist sect, but then how can it be a terrorist sect when since say for instance Wahabism exists in Saudi Arabia and are taking care or controlling Makka and Madina and then again you can't have a terrorist sect or terrorists controlling or looking after Islamic Holy sites or cities? And then since Wahabism is a sect within Islam and its followers are Muslims although misguided (except for some people like Ibn Abdul Wahab who are non-Muslims) - its people will enter Jannah after serving time in Hell, won't they... or will they not? And if they were to enter Jannah, then that doesn't (or does it) mean Wahabism is necessarily a terrorist sect or organisation or supports terrorism at large (apart from may be some people who may or do support it).... because end of day you can't have terrorists entering Jannah.

I am finding this all confusing. "This is the first, most comprehensive fatwa on the subject of terrorism ever written," said ul Qadri, who has written about 350 books on Islamic scholarship.

He is a scholar of Sufism, a long tradition within Islam which is widely seen as focusing on peace, tolerance and moderation. The reality is that whatever these terrorists are doing it is not martyrdom. All these activities are taking them to hellfire.

Nigerian Umar Farouk Abdul Mutallab, accused of trying to bomb a US-bound plane on Christmas Day, studied at a London university until 2008.Government officials in Yemen, where Mutallab began his journey, have said he was radicalised while in Britain.

However, the British Government claims his introduction to hardcore extremists happened after he left the UK. Government officials will be among those joining ul Qadri for the launch of the fatwa in central London. The Muslim Council of Britain, an umbrella organisation representing some 500 Islamic groups, has welcomed the fatwa.

Mutallab is accused of attempting to explode a bomb on board a transatlantic jet
Ul Qadri will tell his audience: "The reality is that whatever these terrorists are doing it is not martyrdom. All these activities are taking them to hellfire."
The 59-year-old was born in Pakistan and is head of the global Minhaj ul Quran religious and educational organisation which spreads his Sufi ideas.

A former Pakistani minister and associate of assassinated prime minister Benazir Bhutto, he delivers lectures worldwide promoting his message of harmony and was one of the first Muslim leaders to condemn the 9/11 attacks in the US.

While ul Qadri has followers around the globe, it is in Pakistan where he has millions of followers and in the diaspora that his impact is likely to be greatest.
Britain has about 1.7 million Muslims, mainly of Pakistani descent. The UK's security services say nearly all major terrorism plots since 2001, including the 2005 London bombings which killed 52 people, have been linked to Pakistan.

Those who are already hardliners will pay no attention at all but 'swing voters' - poorly-educated and angry Muslims who respect mainstream scholars - will probably take note.

Ul Qadri said he is confident his edict will have a significant impact because he has drawn on classical teachings and authorities acceptable to all sects of Islam."I will say more than 50% will change their way, they will be influenced," he said. "Of the remaining 50% at least some of them, half of them, will become doubtful about their life, their terrorist activity," he said.

Tim Winter, a lecturer in Islamic studies at Cambridge University, said while there had been similar fatwas in the past, ul Qadri did appear to have gone further than most. "To declare the miscreants as unbelievers is unusual because it is not really clear that the rules allow one simply to say that they are not Muslims."
He added: "Those who are already hardliners will pay no attention at all but 'swing voters' - poorly-educated and angry Muslims who respect mainstream scholars - will probably take note. "Certainly it is a helpful initiative."

Ul Qadri's pronouncement will be welcomed by authorities in the UK and by other Western governments seeking to stamp out extremism - but the respected scholar said their backing is irrelevant to his views.

Read more at www.skynews.com
Attack on Sunnis procession of prophet's Milad

http://www.ptinews.com/news/540392_1-killed-12-injured-in-sectarian-violence-in-Pak
STAFF WRITER 16:36 HRS IST
Peshawar, Feb 27 (PTI) One person was killed and 12 others were injured in a clash in northwest Pakistan between two groups over the organisation of a procession to mark Prophet Mohammed's birth.

The clash occurred in Dera Ismail Khan district after a group of D******is tried to stop members of the Barelvi sect from marching in a procession in front of a D******i madrassa or seminary.

The two groups scuffled and then exchanged fire.

Thirteen people were injured in the incident and one of them died later in hospital. A few years ago Narendra Modi orchestrated a vile pogrom of bigotry against the Muslims. More than 3000 Muslims were systematically targeted and massacred. More than 400,000 were thrown out the state. They still yearn to return to their villages> Mr. Modi’s henchmen refuse to allow them to return to the homes and property–under threat of death.

In February 2002, Hindu fundamentalists carried out a genocidal ethnic cleansing of Muslims in the state of Gujarat, India. The genocide was conducted in a pre-planned collusion with the police and the BJP state government of Chief Minister Narendra Modi. Between 2,000 and 5,000 Muslims were slaughtered, and more than 150,000 rendered homeless and destitute. Human rights investigators, despite having visited Kosovo and Afghanistan, were unprepared for the horrors they found in Gujarat. To date, the victims have seen no real justice, and the perpetrators continue to boast of Gujarat as a laboratory for the rest of India. With passion and hope, this book documents the Nazi, fascist origins of Hindu fundamentalism; the ongoing propagation of hatred towards Muslims and Christians in the educational system; the continuing economic boycott of Muslims in Gujarat; the legal grounds for prosecuting the BJP leaders for genocide; and the campaign of horrifically violent rape against Muslim women.

The depths of sexual violence in Gujarat demand that the Hindustan of Hindu fundamentalism be renamed as Rapistan. With the rise of Jewish and Islamic fundamentalism in the Middle East and Christian fundamentalism in the US, the Gujarat genocide looms large in a scenario of global fundamentalist wars. It is a story that reverberates in every corner of the globe where the wolves of religious fundamentalism howl at the gates of power. How are we to face this juggernaut of religious fascism, manifest in all religions? Prabhat Sarkar’s book is not merely a case study in communalist cleansing, but a Neo-humanistic spark of liberation from the cycle of hatred.

Genocide in Gujarat: A policeman walks past a dead Muslim stabbed in Khanpur slums of Ahmadabad India Wendesday April 24 2002

On Feb. 27th 2002, a train in Gujarat, India was attacked. In the name of that attack (though it is clear the attackers were not Muslims) the Hindu fundamentalists carried out a genocide of Muslims all over Gujarat, India. It had been pre-planned months earlier. Newspapers and cheap literature fanned the hatred of Muslims, whose only crime was to be born as part of the Muslim minority in India which has a Hindu majority. Though women were raped, heinously tortured and burnt, not one Hindi perpetrator has gone to prison for these crimes because the fundamentalist BJP party reigned supreme, both in Delhi and in Gujarat. On their refusal, people belonging to the Barelvi and Deoband sects started to fight with wooden sticks and iron rods.

However, heavy contingents of law enforcement agencies rushed to the spot and took the situation under control.

Afterwards, when some students of Darul Ullom Sadiqya - affiliated with the Deoband sect and situated in the same area - were going home, unidentified suspects opened indiscriminate fire on them.

As a result, four students identified as Muhammad Safeer, Muhammad Hussain, Faizanuddin and Bashir Ahmed sustained bullet injures and were rushed to the hospital for treatment where Safeer, 20, succumbed to his injuries while other three students were admitted to the hospital for treatment.

When contacted by Daily Times, DSP Shafi Rind said the clash occurred over the flag hoisting ceremony held by Sunni Tehreek and added that the deceased hailed from Azad Kashmir and belonged to the Deoband sect.

Following the incident, a large number of people and students of Darul Ullom Siddiqya staged a sit-in demonstration near Malir Kalaboard and blocked the National Highway for two hours. But his attempts to give something back to his community have proved fruitless, after a dispute broke out among local Muslims, who said that the centre had been built using “filthy money” because Islam does not allow gambling.

The community centre scheme was led by the nearby Masjid Al Momineen Mosque, which has been unable to raise the £400,000 pounds needed to finish the building because of opposition from Muslims in the area.

The Lancashire Council of Mosques said that the mosque was unable to obtain donations because gambling is prohibited by the Koran.

Andy Kay, a local councillor in charge of regenerating the borough, said that the centre was likely to stay in its current state until someone bought the building for another purpose.

An Islamic study centre had been given planning permission, but approval was later obtained for a community centre once the involvement of Mr Mohidin, who became known as Mr Millions, was announced. He paid for the steel work and foundations but the project ground to a halt after those sections were completed in late 1998.

A member of the mosque’s committee said that it was applying for European funding and hoped that work could restart early next year.

He said: “There have been a lot of delays but we are trying to get the money. We have never been out to anyone from the Muslim community to ask for money. It would be a community centre for everyone, not just Muslims.”

But Salim Mulla, secretary of the Lancashire Council of Mosques, said that when money was needed for projects, mosques across the country would be approached.

He said: “Because they accepted lottery money, they have been classed as outcasts, so now no mosque will work with them.

“They are unable to get the money from Muslim communities, which is why it is at a standstill. They are not going to be able to get any money. That is their dilemma.”

Mr Mulla said that he was responsible for coordinating collections at the mosque which he attends, and that he would not have allowed money to be collected for this scheme.

He said: “As Muslims we are not allowed to accept money from gambling. Clean money is what people have worked for, not got from gambling, betting or the lottery.

“The management committee at that time decided to take the money but the consequences were that everybody in the UK got to find out about it. Because they accepted the money it looked very, very bad throughout the UK and also in Muslim areas of the world.”

Taj Ahmed, whose takeaway food outlet overlooks the site, said: “We have been having problems with rats. Because it used to be housing, there are drains underneath it.”

He added: “It doesn’t make a good impression for customers coming here. At the end of the day, something needs doing about it.”

Source.

Ahle Hadith Fitna in Mumbai (strike in mumbai).

Ahle Hadeeth Fitnah in Mumbai
February 15, 2010 ·
By Mumbai Mirror Bureau

A week after being untraceable, Maulana Sheikh Mehraj Rabbani of the radical Ahle Hadees appeared before the Sessions Court on Tuesday in a case of hurting religious sentiments of Dargah-going Sunni Muslims by his allegedly offensive speeches. Hearing his anticipatory bail plea, the court granted him interim relief from being arrested till February 16.

Maulana Rabbani outside the Sessions Court on Tuesday

On January 30, the Ghatkopar police registered an offence against the maulana for allegedly hurting the religious sentiments of fellow Muslims, mostly Sunnis of the Barelvi denomination.

While addressing a gathering on January 28 at Ghatkopar’s Chirag Nagar, Rabbani had allegedly made abusive and hurtful remarks against Khwaja Garib Nawaaz, a saint whose shrine at Ajmer is India’s most famous Sufi shrine. At that time, a massive mob of protesters had gathered at the venue demanding an apology from Rabbani, but police escorted him to safety.
With Rabbani’s speeches escalating tension between different sects, police finally registered a complaint against him. Muslim leaders and scholars approached Home Minister R R Patil, apprehending a law and order situation.

Seeking anticipatory bail, Rabbani claimed before the court that he had not delivered any speech as alleged in the FIR. The court, however, noted that this could not be determined until the investigating officer’s report on the evidence is submitted and thereby granted Rabbani interim relief.

Meanwhile, Rabbani – who makes frequent trips to Saudi Arabia – has surrendered his Indian passport to the Sessions Court.

As the police escorted him out of the court, a group of Barelvis gathered around the van and began shouting slogans against him. As the van picked speed, some protestors climbed onto the van and began banging on the windows, attempting to hit Rabbani.

Advocate Rizwan Merchant, who has filed an intervening application to oppose Rabbani’s plea, said, “Despite the police issuing a gag order on Rabbani, he again made offensive speeches on February 1 and 2 in Kurla, Kandivli and Kalyan. His utterances not only abuse the revered Khwaja Garib Nawaz, but also the saint’s followers. Such speeches are capable of causing communal disharmony, creating law and order problems, putting the state’s security at stake.”

However, as Rabbani’s lawyer Sudeep Pasbola said, “Rabbani has never stated any such thing in his speeches. His recorded speech doing the rounds is one he had delivered in Saudi Arabia many years ago, in some other context.”

Sipahe Shaytaan back with a bang?

Salam u alaikum,

Jhang fears return of sectarian violence

PML-N sees no harm in seeking banned outfit’s blessing

Saturday February 27, 2010 (1558 PST)

<A onclick="window.open('/news/email.php?id=225003','Email','height=430,width=420,title=no,location=no,scrollbars=yes,menubars=no,toolbars=no,resizable=yes'); One can see SSP’s flags across the city, and all this is going on under the nose of the administration and police.
In the last general elections, Jhang voters rejected the SSP candidate and, for the first time in two decades, the SSP failed to secure any seat in the district. However, people allege that MPA Sheikh Muhammad Yaqoob, who won from the Pakistan Muslim League-Q platform, switched over to the Pakistan Muslim League-N and started backing the defunct organisation. Yaqoob denies he ever patronised the banned organisation.
People allege that local authorities, especially police, were turning a blind eye to the resurrecting outfit and show of force by its gun-toting activists.
Officials deny this charge when they are asked to explain the unchecked display of firearms. Some of the officials, however, do admit that the situation is alarming, but they refuse to say anything on record.
Their fear is not unfathomable. A few months back when some miscreants, allegedly belonging to the banned party, burnt a train and the government and private offices and property, police launched a crackdown on the law-breakers. However, later, the transfers of the district police chief and the city SHOs put them in a passive mode and they started showing reluctance in continuing the investigation into the cases of arson.
When they are reminded that the law is being flouted publicly and they are inactive, their response is usually a counter question: “Do you think we are greater protectors of the law than the law minister. Go and put this question to the law minister and the PML-N lawmakers.”
Sources revealed that the district police have discharged many SSP activists from the Fourth Schedule. Nowadays, the SSP leaders can be seen moving in the city with masked gunmen around. DPO Sultan Ahmed Chaudhry told our sources he had sought a report from the police concerned about the SSP’s activities. After getting the report, he added, he would be able to say anything on the issue. He said the police were performing their duties according to the law.
When asked how come development projects had the names of a proscribed outfit’s chief, District Officer Roads Aslam Khan claimed he never issued any orders to that effect. When contacted, Law Minister Rana Sanaullah admitted that the SSP was a banned organisation and majority of its activists involved in criminal activities had been nabbed by the law-enforcing agencies. He said the organisation still had a huge following, who are not involved in any criminal activity. About Maulana Ahmed Ludhianvi, he said he was a runner-up in the 2008 general election, and he had grabbed 45,000 votes against the PML-Q’s Sheikh Waqas Akram.
“If Maulana Ludhianvi was an activist of the banned organisation, why he was allowed to contest the 2008 election?” He alleged that PPP’s Federal Minister Tasneem Qureshi had invited the Maulana to a lunch at his Sargodha residence to seek his support for the PPP candidate in Jhang by-polls. He claimed that some provincial and federal ministers of the PPP had also visited the Jhang residence of Maulana Ludhianvi to seek his support.
Nevertheless, he said, Maulana Ludhianvi, on his request, had decided to support the PML-N candidate, Azam Chela, and made an announcement in this regard at a public meeting, which was also attended by him (minister).
The minister said the PML-N had made him the in-charge of the election campaign in Jhang and he was present along with Maulana Ludhianvi at the public meeting. Moreover, he said, Sheikh Waqas Akram was supporting the PPP candidate in the Jhang by-polls and he was behind all this propaganda, to win over the Shia community votes and to neutralise Maulana Ludhianvi’s support for the PML-N candidate.
He claimed that he was not afraid of the propaganda as he had done nothing illegal or wrong. He further claimed that Federal Ministers Qamar Zaman Kaira, Raja Pervaiz Ashraf and all provincial ministers, including Senior Minister Raja Riaz, were striving to win the support for their candidate and indulging in propaganda against him. He stated that Punjab Governor Salmaan Taseer had also announced a visit to the constituency.
The minister’s view that the SSP chief was an electoral candidate raises a serious question: “Isn’t it a dereliction of duty on part of our state apparatus that a defunct outfit’s leaders went through the pre-election scrutiny?”
End.
<P "Relations were in the freezer before this. They are in the deep freeze now," an official told the Guardian.

Gordon Brown yesterday launched an investigation into the use of the fake passports, which will be led by the Serious Organised Crime Agency (Soca). The British embassy in Tel Aviv is also contacting the British nationals affected in the plot, "and stands ready to provide them with the support that they need", the Foreign Office said in a statement last night.

"The British passport is an important part of being British and we have to make sure everything is done to protect it," Brown told LBC radio yesterday.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010/feb/17/uk-israeli-ambassador-dubai-killing
A Muslim is running for U.S. Congress and he leads in the polls!

This is amazing. In fact, the collective Arab situation is probably the worst since the collapse of the Ottoman Caliphate, following the World War I..........................

The main reason for this enduring political paralysis - this overwhelming calamity - is the continued prevalence of tribal mentality and dynastic despotism throughout the Arab world.

One of the most solid expressions of this tribal mentality is the fact that the mostly autocratic Arab rulers, irrespective of whether they adopt the royal or republican polity, exist in order to control their people and perpetuate themselves and their sons in power, not to lead their nations and advance their interests.

http://www.iviews.com/Articles/articles.asp?ref=DP1001-4067

Saudi prince charged with murdering his aide, London

<SPAN class=Apple-style-span style="WORD-SPACING: 0px;
